A short range inductively coupled wireless communication system employs analog frequency modulation of a high frequency carrier and magnetic coupling between a transmitting antenna and a receiving antenna. A transmitter coupled to the transmitting antenna modulates multiple high-fidelity analog audio signals and digital control messages onto separate high frequency (&ldquo;HF&rdquo;) carriers. The electric field portion of the transmitted electromagnetic field is substantially eliminated during transmission, while the magnetic field portion is substantially unaffected. The receiving antenna is coupled to a demodulator which reproduces the audio frequency signals and decodes control messages sent by the transmitter.

Inductively coupled wireless system and method

Acoustic modules adapted to be worn on the head of a wearer, such as with a headband, or fastened to a hat or eyeglasses, are provided. The modules are situated on opposite sides of the wearer's head, adjacent the ears, and each contains a transducer, an outlet port and a vent port. The audio system is connected to, or in communication with, a conventional source of audio signals, such as a radio, tape player, CD player, cellular telephone, or the like.

A wearable personal audio apparatus includes one or more wearable U-shaped loop members adapted to fit an individual in a plurality of positions on the individual's body, particularly around the head and neck. The plurality of positions can include positions across the forehead, top or back of the head of the individual, and around the front or back of the neck of the individual. The loop member can have an eyewear receiving member which selectively receives an eyewear insert to provide protective or corrective eyewear when the loop member is worn on the front of the head of the wearer. In one embodiment, a plurality of sets of quick-connect interface ports are disposed around the loop member to selectively receive a plurality of external audio transducer modules. The quick-connect interface ports provide a respective communication path between each of the external audio transducer modules and an audio circuit which can be either external to the loop member or contained within the loop member. In another embodiment, a plurality of internal audio transducers are disposed within the loop member. The internal audio transducers can include audio output devices and/or audio input devices.

Wearable personal audio loop apparatus

A method and a system for audio communication between a plurality of users at a plurality of sites utilizes a set of audio input sensors at each site. Each set of audio input sensors binaurally senses an auditory space in proximity thereto. A metaphorical representation of each of the sites is provided. Each metaphorical representation has a position which is variable within a metaphorical space. The metaphorical representations can be based upon, for example, a physical metaphor, a visual metaphor, an auditory metaphor, or a textual metaphor. The auditory space sensed at each site is combined to form at least one synthetic auditory space. The at least one synthetic auditory space is formed in dependence upon the position of each metaphorical representation within the metaphorical space. A binaurally perceivable auditory environment is produced at one or more sites based upon the at least one synthetic auditory space.
