Antibiotic compositions comprising an equilibrium mixture of azalide isomers, water, and one or more acids, and methods for preparing such compositions, are disclosed. The antibiotic compositions can be advantageously stabilized by adding one or more water-miscible co-solvents. In a preferred embodiment, the one or more co-solvents is propylene glycol.

Azalide antibiotic compositions

Aqueous pharmaceutical solutions suitable for injection into a host, having improved injection site toleration, comprise danofloxacin or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts and a magnesium or zinc compound. The zinc compound in addition requires the presence of a co-solvent.

Injectable quinolone formulations

A pharmaceutical tablet which releases an initial burst of therapeutic agent and thereafter releases the agent at an essentially constant rate comprising an acid soluble therapeutic agent in an insoluble matrix, the tablet containing an acid insoluble, base soluble pharmaceutically acceptable component selected from polymers and fatty acids, a pharmaceutically acceptable organic acid and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, the component and the acid each being present in an amount of from about 1-25 percent by weight of the total composition.
