This invention provides a magnetic fluid having a rich hue and containing an organic compound as dispersion medium. The magnetic fluid of this invention is constructed by mixing, into a magnetic dispersion, a colorant prepared by beforehand treating a coloring material with a solubilizing treating agent or a dispersibilizing treating agent. Said solubilizing treating agent or dispersibilizing treating agent has a hydrophobic group and a functional group absorbable or linkable to said coloring material. As said coloring material, a dyestuff, an organic pigment or an inorganic pigment is used. A colorant prepared by subjecting an intermediate of said coloring material to said treatment is also usable. Further, a colorant prepared by pretreating a coloring material so as to give the coloring material an absorbability or a linkability to said solubilizing treating agent or dispersibilizing treating agent and then subjecting the beforehand pretreated coloring material to said treatment is also usable. The magnetic fluid of this invention can retain its initial hue stably for a long period of time, and its hue can be changed without substantially changing the properties of magnetic fluid such as magnetization, viscosity and the like. Accordingly, the magnetic fluid of this invention can be applied extensively to all the use fields of magnetic dispersion, and it exhibits a particularly great effect when applied to uses of developer or ink in the field of printing and recording.

Magnetic fluid

The present invention provides a recording medium employing conductive polymers and a recording method employing the recording medium. The recording medium of the present invention is comprised of a substrate and a conductive polymer layer including a dopant therein and layered on the substrate. In addition, the recording method according to the present invention is effected on the basis of selective change in the amount of the dopant contained in the conductive polymers. The recording medium according to the present invention is utilizable ion the field of recording, memory and electronic devices, while displaying remarkably advantageous recording characteristics and environmental stability.

Recording media and recording methods

A temperature sensitive polymer composition comprising a polymer matrix containing at least 20 wt. % of a modified polyamide resin having N-alkyl-substituted amido units or ether units, and phenolic compound/aldehyde polycondensates. The polycondensate is present in an amount of from 5 to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts of the polymer matrix.

Temperature sensitive polymer compositions

A temperature sensitive polymer composition comprising a polyamide matrix and a mixture of a phenolic compound, which has an alkyl group having from 11 to 36 carbon atoms, and an aldehyde polycondensate of a phenolic compound.

Polymeric materials consisting essentially of a polymer of recurring units of a five-membered oxygen family heterocyclic ring which is selected from furan, thiophene, selenophene, tellurophene and derivatives thereof. The polymer is doped with anions of the specific type. A method for producing the polymeric materials is also described which comprises electrochemically polymerizing a five-membered oxygen family heterocyclic compound in coexistence with an acceptor with or without use of a supporting electrolyte in such a way that anions of the specific type is taken in the polymerized heterocyclic compound. The polymeric material is obtained in the form of a dense tenacious film.

Anion-doped polymers of five-membered oxygen family heterocyclic

This invention provides a magnetic fluid which is diversified in hue and stable in the electric fields. The magnetic fluid of this invention is composed of a dispersion of ferromagnetic particles dispersed by a surfactant, and a colorant having the same charge as the dispersing medium in said dispersing medium. The dyes effective for use in this invention are the nonionic azo dyes, anthrquinone dyes and metal-containing dyes, and the pigments useful in this invention are the organic or inorganic pigments treated so as to have an isoelectric point in the dispersing medium. A magnetic fluid having black color or other desired hues can be obtained by properly selecting the dye and/or pigment. The magnetic fluid of this invention exhibits its excellent properties particularly when used as a recording material.

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-Octahydro-11,11,12,12-tetracyano-9,10-anthraquinodimethane compounds of the general formula ##STR1## in which W, X, Y and Z independently represent hydrogen, halogen, hydroxyl group, hydrocarbon group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, alkoxy group or acyloxy group provided that W=Y and X=Z, or W=Z and X=Y. The compositions and charge transfer complexes comprising these compounds are also described together with intermediates for the compounds.

Octahydrotetracyanoquinodimethane and derivatives thereof

A 11,11,12,12,-tetracyano-9,10-antraquinondimethane compound of the general formula ##STR1## wherein Z.sub.2, Z.sub.3, Z.sub.6 and Z.sub.7 each is H, halogen, alkyl, phenyl, alkylphenyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, hydroxy, amino or carboxy and Z.sub.1, Z.sub.4, Z.sub.5 and Z.sub.8 each is H, Cl, hydroxy or amino; said halogen being F, Cl, Br or I and said alkyl, alkylphenyl, hydroxyalkyl and carboxyalkyl each containing up to 8 carbon atoms. The compounds within the scope of the above general formula are of value as organic conductors or organic semiconductors and can be used broadly as electronic materials.

Tetracyanoanthraquinodimethane compounds

A process for producing 11,11,12,12-tetracyano-9,10-anthraquinodimethane or its derivatives of the general formula ##STR1## in which Z.sub.1, Z.sub.4, Z.sub.5, and Z.sub.8 independently represent hydrogen, chlorine, hydroxy or amino group and Z.sub.2, Z.sub.3, Z.sub.6 and Z.sub.7 independently represent hydrogen, halogen, alkyl which has 1 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl, alkylphenyl whose alkyl group has 1 to 2 carbon atoms, hyroxyalkly which has 1 to 8 carbon atoms, carboxyalkyl whose alkyl group has 1 to 8 carbon atoms, hydroxy amino, or carboxyl group, the process comprising introduction of dicyanomethyl groups into an anthracene compound of the following general formula at 9 and 10 positions ##STR2## in which Z.sub.1, Z.sub.2, Z.sub.3, Z.sub.4, Z.sub.5, Z.sub.6, Z.sub.7 and Z.sub.8 have the same meanings as defined above, and dehydrogenation of the dicyanomethyl groups.

Process for the production of

An image forming process comprising steps of arranging on a support member, in accordance with image signals, image forming particles containing dye former which develops its color in reaction with a color developing agent, heat-transferring the dye former from the particles to an image receiving substrate. After the heat-transfer step, the color developing agent is caused to adhere to the dye former heat-transferred on the image receiving substrate to provide colored images. Choice of the image receiving substrate and the color developing agent is expanded. Fogging is not caused, color purity is not lowered, and the other image receiving material is not polluted due to reevaporation of the dye former which is on the image receiving substrate and is not reacted with color developing agent.

Image forming process

This invention is directed to a polymeric thermo-sensitive material which comprises a polyamide composition containing compounds of sulphur-contained compounds or phosphorous acid ester, and which is smaller in polarization in the application of direct-current electric field, higher in temperature detection function, does not cause flexibility deterioration due to heating operation and is less in hygroscopicity. A composition containing thiophosphorous acid ester and bis(hydroxyphenyl) sulfide derivative from a group of the phosphorous acid ester is particularly superior in quality.

Polymeric thermo-sensitive material

A functional electric device is described, which device comprises a functional material layer, and a pair of electrodes separated from each other and electrically contacting with the functional material layer. At least one of the pair of electrodes is made of copper or an alloy of copper and a copper inactivating agent is present between the functional material layer and the at least one of the paired electrodes. The functional electric device includes heat-sensitive, fusing and photovoltaic elements.

A magnetic ink refining method according to which the fine magnetic particles dispersed unstably in the magnetic ink are sedimented and removed by applying a concentrated magnetic field to the magnetic ink composed of the fine magnetic particles dispersed in a dispersing medium in a colloidal state with a surface-active agent, and a picture recording device incorporating said refining system.

An electrostatic recording medium comprising a support, a conductive layer formed on one surface of the support and made of zinc oxide dispersed in a combination of a cationic polyelectrolyte and a non-conductive binder resin, and a dielectric layer formed on the conductive layer. The cationic polyelectrolyte is contained in an amount of not smaller than 30% by weight of the total of the polyelectrolyte and the binder resin.
