A storage system includes a management processor and main processors. Each of the main processors is configured to alternately switch between a period in which main function processing, including I/O processing in response to an I/O request from a host, is executed and a period in which a management instruction is executed. The management processor is configured to: manage information associating each of uncompleted management instructions, which are already transmitted to the main processors, with a transmission destination main processor to which the each of the uncompleted management instructions is transmitted; select, based on the uncompleted management instructions of the main processors, a transmission destination main processor to which a next management instruction is to be transmitted, from among the main processors; and transmit the next management instruction to the selected transmission destination main processor.

The storage system is capable of creating one or more virtual storage subsystems to which virtual resources having logically divided a processing capacity of the physical resources are allocated, and upon creating a virtual volume for receiving I/O requests from the host within the virtual storage subsystem, the virtual storage subsystem allocates the virtual resource to the virtual volume, and when an I/O request to the virtual volume is received from the host, performs processing related to the I/O request using the virtual resource having been allocated. According further to the storage system, after allocating the virtual resource to the virtual volume, the storage system raises a utilization rate of the virtual resource allocated to the virtual volume in a stepwise manner.

Second volumes which form a remote copy with first volumes provided to a host at a primary site are located in a storage apparatus at the restoration site, which can satisfy the performance requirement upon failure of the first volumes, on the basis of performance information and available capacity information. A volume group is configured for each of the second volumes located at one storage apparatus at the restoration site and the first volumes; and an extended volume group including a plurality of second volumes, in which data is replicated and recorded in a write order to write the data to the first volumes, and their first volumes is set.

If resources allocated to a host computer exist in different physical storage nodes within a virtual storage system after performing migration to a storage system, mapping of resources among the physical storage nodes becomes necessary, and if the amount of communication between physical storage nodes that occurs during access to resources exceeds a bandwidth of the connection path, the host I/O performance may be deteriorated compared to the performance before migration.
