A fuel cell with separator includes a fuel cell body having a cathode, an anode, and a solid electrolyte layer disposed between the cathode and the anode; a plate-like metal separator having first and second main surfaces and an opening which opens at the first and second main surfaces; a joint formed of an Ag-containing brazing filler metal and adapted to join the fuel cell body and the first main surface of the metal separator; and a seal formed of a glass-containing sealing material and disposed closer to the opening than is the joint, the seal being located between the first main surface and the fuel cell body and extending along the entire perimeter of the opening.

An ammonium gas sensor is provided. The ammonium gas sensor includes: a solid electrolyte layer having oxygen ion conductivity; a detection electrode formed on one surface of the solid electrolyte layer; a reference electrode that is a counter electrode of the detection electrode; a selective reaction layer covering the detection electrode; and a protection layer covering the selective reaction layer and made from a porous material; wherein the detection electrode includes a noble metal as a main component; the selective reaction layer includes oxide represented by AMOas a main component, where A is one or more kind(s) of metal, M is vanadium, tungsten, or molybdenum and x, y, z are atomic ratios; and the protection layer includes the oxide that is in an amount smaller than a content of the oxide included in the selective reaction layer.

Ammonium gas sensor

A method and apparatus for controlling a multi-gas sensor, including an NOsensor section and an ammonia sensor section. The NOsensor section includes a first pumping cell adapted to pump oxygen into or out of a gas under measurement introduced into a first measurement chamber, and a second pumping cell communicating with the first measurement chamber and configured such that a second pumping current Ipcorresponds to an NOconcentration of the gas under measurement. Oxygen concentration is calculated on the basis of a first pumping current flowing through the first pumping cell, and a corrected ammonia concentration is calculated on the basis of the oxygen concentration and the ammonia concentration output of the ammonia sensor section.

Method and apparatus for controlling multi-gas sensor

Ammonia gas sensor

A spark plugcomprised of a metal shell, an insulator, a center electrodeand a ground electrode. A rear-end face of the ground electrodeis welded to a front-end face of the metal shell, and a bent portionlocated at the intermediated position in the longitudinal direction is bent toward the center of the spark plug. The ground electrodeassumes a circular-shape with a diameter of 2 mm or less whereby an inflow of an air-fuel mixture is not disturbed even when the air-fuel mixture directly flows into a back face of the ground electrode. The ground electrodeis comprised of an outer layerA made of a nickel alloy and an inner layerB made of pure copper with an excellent thermal conductivity, in which a ratio of a cross-sectional area of the inner layerB to the entire cross-sectional area of the ground electrodeis 10% or more to 35% or less. Thus, the spark plugwhich is excellent in heat sinking ability and can prevent a spring back phenomenon due to a difference in a coefficient of thermal expansion.

Spark plug for use in an internal-combustion engine with a bilayer ground electrode

A spark plug for an internal-combustion engine is provided wherein the central and ground electrodes exhibit a long service life and wherein the fatigue strength at high temperatures is improved. The ground electrode is made from an alloy comprised of nickel (Ni) as a primary component, chromium: 20-30% by weight, iron: 7-20% by weight, aluminum: 1-3% by weight, titanium: 0.05-0.5% by weight, manganese: not higher than 0.1% by weight, silicon: not higher than 0.1% by weight, and carbon: not higher than 0.5% by weight. The alloy further includes at least one specific element selected from zirconium, yttrium, neodymium, cerium, lanthanum and samarium. Further, the total content of the specific element group is 5% or more of the aluminum content and is not higher than 1% by weight.

Spark plug for internal-combustion engines

A spark plug including: a center electrode; an insulator which holds the center electrode therein in a state where a tip end portion of the center electrode protrudes therefrom; a metal shell which holds the insulator therein; a ground electrode which is fixed to the metal shell, the ground electrode having an inner side face having a width that is smaller as it advances toward a tip end side, in a portion of the inner side face positioned between a pair of tapered faces; and a discharge portion which is bonded to the inner side face of the ground electrode by laser welding so as to attain a diameter of 0.8 mm or less and a height of 0.5 mm or more, and a discharge gap being formed between the discharge portion and the tip end portion of said center electrode.

A spark plug including: a center electrode as defined herein; a substantially cylindrical insulator as defined herein; a cylindrical metal shell as defined herein; and a ground electrode as defined herein, wherein a spark discharge gap is provided between the leading end portion of the center electrode and the leading end portion of the ground electrode, and the ground electrode has a bulging curved face on a side opposite to a side in which the center electrode is provided, and a maximum of width of the ground electrode within a range of &#xb1;1 mm from a center point of the spark discharge gap in the axial direction, as viewed in a direction where the center electrode and the ground electrode overlap, is 105% or less of a width of an ordinary portion having a substantially constant width.

Method for manufacturing noble metal electric discharge chips for spark plugs

There is provided a method for controlling a plasma-jet spark plug in a four-stroke internal combustion engine, including the steps of: causing the spark plug to generate a primary discharge during either a compression stroke or an expansion stroke of the engine in such a manner as to produce a plasma by the primary discharge; and causing the spark plug to generate a secondary discharge during a time after the primary discharge and before the completion of a subsequent intake stroke of the engine.

Plasma-jet spark plug control method and device

To provide a spark plug in which separation of a tip can be prevented and enough wear resistance can be obtained without increasing the content of nickel in the tip portion, and a use method of the spark plug. Spark plug with high durability

A plasma jet spark plug provides improved ignitability and durability by forming a part of a spark discharge gap outside the electric discharge space which generates plasma. An ignition system for the plasma jet spark plug is also disclosed. The plasma jet spark plug includes a center electrode, an insulator defining an axial bore which partially surrounds the center electrode, a cavity surrounded by an inner circumferential face of the axial bore which extends from an opening portion of a front end of the axial bore of the insulator and wherein a front end face of the center electrode is formed. A ground electrode is bent towards a front end portion of the insulator.

A spark plug comprising: a center electrode extending in a direction of an axis of said spark plug; a cylindrical insulator which has a shaft hole, and which holds said center electrode in said shaft hole in a state where a tip end of said center electrode is projected from a tip end face of said insulator; a metal shell which holds said insulator; and a ground electrode in which one end is joined to a tip end face of said metal shell, and which extends from said one end toward another end, wherein said ground electrode has an inner side face which faces said center electrode, and an outer side face which is a back face with respect to said inner side face, said outer side face is formed as an arcuately curved face when viewed from a side of said another end in an extending direction of said ground electrode, and a columnar noble metal tip is joined to said inner side face.

A noble-metal chip () joined to at least either a center electrode or a ground electrode, the center and ground electrodes forming a spark discharge gap, and having a circumferential edge of its facing end surface () removed so as to form an edge-removed portion (). The edge-removal length is 0.01 mm or more and a ratio of the edge-removal length to a radius of the noble-metal chip is less than 0.3. The noble-metal chip is made of iridium or an alloy that contains iridium man amount of 70% by weight or more, and crystal grains constituting the noble-metal chip () extends in the axial direction.
