It is an object of the present invention to provide a projection image-displaying member having excellent suitability for polarizing sunglasses, a windshield glass, and a head-up display system. The projection image-displaying member has a first polarization converting layer, at least one selectively reflecting layer, and a second polarization converting layer in this order. The first polarization converting layer and the second polarization converting layer are layers formed by fixing a helical alignment structure of a liquid crystal compound. The number of pitches in the helical alignment structure and a film thickness satisfy all relational expressions below. When the first polarization converting layer has a number of pitches xand a film thickness y(unit: μm),0.3≤≤2.0 and  (i)≥1.86+0.13.  (ii) When the second polarization converting layer has a number of pitches xand a film thickness y(unit: μm),0.25≤≤2.0,  (iii)≤1.37+5.5, and  (iv)≥1.37+0.25.  (v)

Projection image-displaying member, windshield glass, and head-up display system

Provided are a projection image display member having a high visible light transmittance, suppressing a double image of a display image, and having excellent suitability of polarized sunglasses for incident light reflected from external light, a windshield glass using the projection image display member, and a head-up display system. The problem is solved such that one or more phase difference layers, one or more selective reflection layers, and one or more polarization conversion layers are provided in this order, the polarization conversion layer being a layer in which a helical alignment structure of a liquid crystal compound is fixed, and the number of pitches x of the helical alignment structure and a film thickness y (μm) of the polarization conversion layer satisfying '0.3≤x≤7.0', “0.5≤y≤6.0”, “y≤0.7x+3.2”, and “y≥0.7x−1.4”.

Projection image display member, windshield glass, and head-up display system

An object of the present invention is to provide a half-mirror film for displaying a projection image having high adhesiveness, a laminated glass in which wrinkle generation of the half-mirror film is suppressed or furthermore has high adhesiveness, and an image display system using the laminated glass. The problem is solved by providing a half-mirror film for displaying a projection image including a transparent support; and a selective reflection layer reflecting light in a wavelength selective manner, in which the transparent support has an absolute value of 10 nm or less of an in-plane phase difference at a wavelength of 550 nm and a heat seal layer disposed on an opposite surface of a surface having the selective reflection layer, the heat seal layer contains a thermoplastic resin, and a mixed layer in which components of the transparent support and the heat seal layer are mixed is formed between the transparent support and the heat seal layer.

Half-mirror film for displaying projection image, laminated glass for displaying projection image, and image display system

There are provided a projection image-displaying member, a windshield glass, and a head-up display system in which both high visible light transmittance and good tint of a screen image displayed are achieved. The projection image-displaying member has a selectively reflecting layer that wavelength-selectively reflects light. The selectively reflecting layer has a maximum reflectivity in a wavelength range of 700 to 850 nm at an incidence angle of 5&#xb0; and has a peak with a reflectivity of 15% or more in a wavelength range of 470 to 540 nm. The selectively reflecting layer further has two or more peaks of reflectivity in a wavelength range of 540 to 700 nm.

A sensing method includes sensing the target object by sensing light that is derived from emitted light and has passed the target object, in which the emitted light is circularly polarized light, sensed light is circularly polarized light, and light derived from the emitted light is incident to the target object at an angle greater than 20&#xb0; and equal to or smaller than 70&#xb0; that is formed with a normal line of the target object.

According to the invention, there is provided a circular polarizing filter for selectively transmitting circularly polarized light of any one sense of either right-handed circularly polarized light or left-handed circularly polarized light at a specific wavelength in which scattering transmittance/vertical transmittance when circularly polarized light of the sense of the specific wavelength enters from any one surface is less than scattering reflectance/regular reflectance when circularly polarized light of the other sense enters from the surface. The circular polarizing filter includes a circularly-polarized light separating layer, the circularly-polarized light separating layer includes a reflected light-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer, and may further include a reflected light-non-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer, the reflected light-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer is composed of a layer having a cholesteric liquid crystalline phase fixed therein, and the reflected light-non-scattering circularly-polarized light separating layer is composed of a layer having a cholesteric liquid crystalline phase fixed therein, or a laminate including a linearly-polarized light separating layer and a &#x3bb;/4 phase difference layer. The circular polarizing filter of the invention has a high circular polarizance, and a high-sensitivity sensor system can be provided using the circular polarizing filter of the invention.

The present invention provides an illuminating device that makes it possible to reduce the number of members for regulating a polarization state and can irradiate light having natural color shades without decreasing energy efficiency of light irradiation, and a plant growth regulation method using the illuminating device. The illuminating device of the present invention includes a light-emitting light source and a polarization state regulation member that regulates a polarization state of the light-emitting light source, in which the polarization state of a wavelength region of a portion of emission wavelengths is changed to circular polarization, and a degree of circular polarization of light in a wavelength band for regulation among the light rays to be irradiated is 0.3 or higher. In a preferable embodiment, a width of at least one wavelength band for regulation of the polarization state regulation member is from 60 nm to 250 nm.

The present invention provides an optical member including a reflection layer and an information presentation layer, the reflection layer comprising one or more circularly-polarized light reflection layers selected from the group consisting of a right circularly-polarized light reflection layer and a left circularly-polarized light reflection layer, the circularly-polarized light reflection layer consisting of a layer obtained by fixing a cholesteric liquid-crystalline phase, the reflection layer having a reflection wavelength at which a specular reflectance for non-polarized light is more than 20% in a wavelength region in which the circularly-polarized light reflection layer exhibits selective reflection, a diffuse reflectance for non-polarized light at the reflection wavelength less than 50%, the reflection wavelength being in an infrared wavelength region, and the information presentation layer having a pattern of a material that absorbs or reflects light of the reflection wavelength. The optical member can be used as a handwriting input sheet, which can be used by being stuck to the surface of a display.

The present invention provides a reflection film, comprising a right circularly-polarized light reflection layer and a left circularly-polarized light reflection layer as circularly-polarized light reflection layers, each of the circularly-polarized light reflection layers consisting of a layer obtained by fixing a cholesteric liquid-crystalline phase, having a reflection wavelength at which a diffuse reflectance for non-polarized light becomes 50% or more in a wavelength region in which each of the circularly-polarized light reflection layers exhibits selective reflection, the reflection wavelength being in an infrared wavelength region, and the reflection film exhibiting a direct transmittance of non-polarized visible light of 50% or more and a haze value of 5% or less; and an optical member including the reflection film, which can be used as a handwriting input sheet. The optical member can be used by being stuck to the surface of a display.

A process of preparing a lamination film comprising two or more layers of a fixed cholesteric liquid-crystal phase is disclosed. The process comprises (a) applying a coating liquid of a curable liquid crystal composition comprising a rod-like liquid crystal compound, an alignment-control agent capable of controlling an alignment of the rod-like liquid crystal compound and a solvent to a surface; (b) drying the applied curable liquid crystal composition to form a cholesteric liquid-crystal phase; (c) carrying out a curing reaction of the composition and fixing the cholesteric liquid-crystal phase, thereby to form a lower layer; and (d) repeating the steps (a) to (c) on the lower layer, thereby to form an upper layer; wherein at least a part of the alignment-control agent in the lower layer diffuses into the upper layer.

A heat shield comprising a first light-reflective layer, having a reflectance peak both in a wavelength range of from 400 nm to less than 850 nm and in a wavelength range of from more than 850 nm to 1300 nm and satisfying C&#x3e;A&#x3e;B, is disclosed. 'A' means the maximum reflectance in the wavelength range of from 400 nm to less than 850 nm; 'B' means the reflectance at a wavelength of 850 nm; &#x201c;C&#x201d; means the maximum reflectance in the wavelength range of from more than 850 nm to 1300 nm; and &#x201c;B&#x201d; is equal to or less than 50%.
