There is provided a preview distribution technique capable of realizing a flexible preview distribution between a distribution side and a user side. According to the technique, preview meta data describing reference destination information to the preview-constituting data of a plurality of types constituting the content preview is transmitted to a reception terminal. The reception terminal acquires the preview-constituting data by using the reference destination information described in the preview meta data and generates/reproduces the preview. Thus, when modifying the preview, the reception terminal can reproduce the preview after the modification, by acquiring only the data constituting the preview of the modified part, thereby easily modifying the data constituting the preview. That is, it is possible to perform a flexible preview distribution.

The present invention is designed to display a matrix plane on which a time axis and an axis of applicable levels corresponding to a predetermined keyword cross each other, arrange and display identifiers indicating scenes obtained by dividing a moving image file into predetermined segments on the matrix plane and decide, when the positions of the identifiers arranged on the matrix plane are moved to desired positions, the applicable levels corresponding to the positions of the identifiers arranged on the matrix plane as the applicable levels of the scene corresponding to the identifiers. Disclosed is a system and method of data transmission/reception in which picture signals are encoded into image data, the attribute information of the image data is obtained, meta data are generated from the attribute information of the image data. The image data and the meta data are transmitted separately. With this system and method of data transmission/reception, when predetermined conditions are satisfied, i.e. only when a moving body is detected or abnormal data or data including significant information are detected, image data and meta data are transmitted. Therefore, since not all the data are transmitted, the amount of transmitted data is reduced. As a result, the amount of data accumulated in data recipient can be reduced and the load of data analysis operation can be alleviated. In addition, the burden on an operator visually monitoring image data can be eased. Furthermore, inadvertent failure in checking abnormal data or data including significant information can be prevented.

In the present invention, when a request query is different in expression from a viewpoint of a target content description, using a term exchange description in which a term contained in the content description and another term indicating in different expression the term are associated with each other and described, the request query or the viewpoint of the target content description is exchanged with the same term as the viewpoint or request respectively to perform content retrieval. A motion compensated prediction interframe coding system which first measures characteristics regarding the fineness of a pattern or texture of a picture, which is represented by an input television signal and is divided into a group of continuous blocks each quantized by using a quantization step size, and changes the quantization step size into a smaller one if quantizes a block having a picture pattern or texture finer than patterns of the other blocks. Thereby, an amount of generated codes can be limited but a motion compensated prediction frame coding operation can be performed without degrading the fineness of the texture of the original input picture.

Motion compensated prediction interframe coding system

An encoding noise reduction filter is described which is applicable to a decoded video signal produced from a digital video signal encoding and decoding apparatus of a type in which variable values of quantization step size are utilized within each video signal frame and in which orthogonal transform coefficients for respective picture element values are quantized and encoded. Low-amplitude high-frequency components of the decoded video signal are eliminated to achieve encoding noise reduction, with high-frequency emphasis processing of the resultant signal then being applied, and with the operations for eliminating low-amplitude high-frequency components and executing high-frequency emphasis being respectively controlled in accordance with the picture quality of the frame that is currently being processed, as expressed by an average value of quantization step size that was used in encoding processing of the frame.

Noise-reducing filter apparatus for decoded digital video signal

An apparatus for coding a moving-picture signal comprises a first memory temporarily memorizing an input picture signal of one frame. A block of the picture signal, which corresponds to a central portion of the frame, is firstly read out from the first memory and then other blocks of the picture signal are sequentially read out from the first memory in a predetermined order. Each of the blocks of the picture signal has a predetermined number of adjacent pixels. A transform device transforms each block of the picture signal read out from the first memory into transmission information. A second memory stores the transmission information and has a capacity which adaptively varies with a position of the block relative to the frame. A quantizer adaptively quantizes an output from the transform device in accordance with a quantity of the transmission information stored in the second memory and with the position of the block relative to the frame.

Apparatus for coding a moving-picture signal

In an electrochromic display device including a pair of opposed substrates, a display electrode formed on one of the substrates and a counter electrode formed on the other substrate, the response speed and display life of the device are improved by its novel counter electrode structure including a low conductive film arranged to face the display electrode and a high conductive film arranged to uncover, adjoin or cover the former. Alternatively, the low conductive film is embedded in the high conductive film to face the display electrode. Each of the conductive films is essentially made of In.sub.2 O.sub.3, In.sub.2 O.sub.3 --SnO.sub.2 or SnO.sub.2. The high conductive film may be made of Au, Ag or Pt. Where the low conductive film is an insulating film, it is sandwiched by the high conductive films. The insulating film is made of a metal oxide, metal fluoride or metal nitride. The difference in electric resistance between the low and high conductive films is selected 10 times or more. This novel counter electrode structure reduces the leakage current and provides a uniform current density distribution thus ensuring an improved response speed and display life.
