A sanitary napkin is disclosed for providing a convenient means for disposal at minimum cost to the consumer. The napkin is capable of being rolled or folded and self-sealed for disposal and includes one or more flaps extending transversely from one end of the backing layer. The flap or flaps are wrapped around the edges of the rolled or folded napkin and sealed by adhesive means on the other end of the backing layer. Preferred adhesive means serve a dual purpose of providing for attachment to the undergarment and providing for sealing of the napkin prior to disposal.

Sanitary napkins are disclosed which include side-protecting flaps having specially designed hinge means for disposing at least one of the flaps in a pre-folded, flexible position. The flap or flaps of the preferred embodiments may be wrapped around a crotch portion of an undergarment without additional attachment adhesive.

A sanitary napkin is disclosed with flange sealing means for protecting the body-facing surface from dirt and deformation until the napkin is ready for use. The seal is provided by a wrapping member which extends over at least a portion of the absorbent element of the napkin. Upon folding the napkin about a transverse axis, the wrapping member is adhered to itself by an adhesive to protect the napkin.

Improvements are made in a panty protector of the kind comprising adhesive attachment and provided with transversely extending flaps. The peripheral shape of the protector is such that it is possible to produce the sheet of material of construction for the protector and simply cut said shapes out of said sheets with minimal waste.
