An RF body coil having enhanced acoustic deadening properties for an MR scanning apparatus is disclosed. The RF body coil includes an RF support form and RF electronics affixed to the RF support form, with the RF electronics comprising a plurality of RF legs. The RF support form further includes an inner structural layer, an outer structural layer, and a middle layer sandwiched between the inner structural layer and the outer structural layer, the middle layer comprising a layer of viscoelastic material configured to increase the mechanical damping of the RF body coil so as to reduce RF body coil vibration.

RF body coil for reduced acoustic noise in an MR system

A composite RF body coil liner for reducing acoustic noise in an MR System is disclosed. The composite RF body coil liner includes an inner surface layer, an outer surface layer, a fire retardant layer positioned between the inner surface layer and the outer surface layer, and an acoustic barrier positioned between the inner surface layer and the outer surface layer, with the acoustic barrier configured to increase the mechanical damping of the RF body coil so as to reduce RF body coil vibration.

Thermoacoustic RF body coil liner for reduced acoustic noise in an MR system

An apparatus and method to reduce noise in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems are provided. One MRI system includes a gantry having a bore therethrough and at least one radio frequency (RF) coil supported by the gantry for imaging an object within the bore. The MRI system also includes a vacuum space between the at least one RF coil and the bore.

Apparatus and method to reduce noise in magnetic resonance imaging systems

An apparatus and method to attenuate vibration and acoustic noise are provided. One apparatus includes a first layer formed from a non-metal material having a predetermined level of resistance to deformation to define a frequency response based on a vibrating frequency. The non-metal material has a profile defined by at least one sinusoid. The apparatus also includes a second layer defining an absorption layer coupled to the first layer. The second layer adds a body of mass adjacent the first layer.
