An erasably markable article formed of a coated substrate that is markable with dry wipe inks without causing permanent discernible distortion of the substrate. The surface after marking is substantially fully erasable. The surface is provided by a smooth coating of cured lacquer preferably a radiation cured lacquer, for example, electron beam radiation cured urethane acrylate. The substrate may be flexible, for example, a biaxially oriented polypropylene multilayer film having a closed cell foam-like core wherein the substrate exhibits electrostatic cling properties. The substrate may also be adhesive coated paper or may be relatively inflexible pressboard.

Erasably, markable articles and methods of making such articles

Low cost index media for use with loose-leaf binders and wirebound notebooks. An index tab includes a base portion having a plurality of apertures engagable by rings of a ring binder, and an index portion which projects beyond documents within the notebook in order to display index indicia. The index portion is integral with but offset from the base portion to define a clearance region which prevents interference between the index tab and an actuator lever for the loose-leaf binder. A second indexing article consists of an index sheet having a base portion and index portion, the base portion being of comparable dimensions to the documents within the notebook, and being bindable within the notebook. The index portion is foldable relative to the base portion, and may include preprinted index indicia as well as an area for inscribing merge information associated with respective indices. Preferably, duplicate index indicia and information is inscribed on both faces of the index portion thereby to display such information either in the folded-in or folded-out configuration.

Index media for loose-leaf notebooks and wirebound notebooks

An erasably markable luminescent article formed of a coated substrate that is markable with dry wipe inks without causing permanent discernible distortion of the substrate. The surface after marking is substantially fully erasable. The surface is provided by a smooth coating of cured lacquer perferably a radiation cured lacquer, for example, electron beam radiation cured urethane acrylate. The luminescent appearance results from a phosphorescent layer between the substrate and an unpigmented cured lacquer coating.

Erasably markable articles and methods of making such articles

A file folder capable of being suspended from a hanging storage rack, having first and second straight shank ordinary fasteners for mounting first and second hanger members upon the file folder and whereby terminal portions of the hanger members are selectively positioned inside of the file folder or outside of the folder to enable the folder to be hung within an ordinary hanging storage rack. The fasteners also bind papers to the folder at the same time.

A tab for adhesively securing and binding articles within looseleaf binders and like devices, where such articles cannot be conveniently provided with apparatus for engagement by the binder rings. The tab includes a central, apertured portion advantageously comprising bilaterally symmetric apertured sections separated by a central fold line, and wing portions, all adhesive-coated. The tab is prepared for use by folding the respective halves of the central tab portion against each other with apertures aligned. The tab may then be inserted in a binder ring, and the wings of the tab adhesively secured to the article to be bound. Advantageously a plurallity of such tabs are included in a tab stock, such tab stock including an adhesive coated tab substrate (preferably transparent) and backing sheet.

Looseleaf notebooks, presentation devices and similar stationery items incorporating a binder mechanism attached to the side of the rear cover. Three slots are present along the side of the front cover positioned so as to fit into the ring binder mechanism to lock the notebook and secure all contents. The ring binder itself may contain a stiff paper or plastic insert for providing additional support for use as a presentation device. Such insert may includes three projections along the bottom manufactured to fit into the front cover slots to convert the notebook into an easel stand. The stiff insert additionally may function as the third side during vertical positioning of the notebook thereby allowing for a stable free standing presentation device.

Side binder notebook

Two methods for mounting index tabs to coiled wire bound stenographic notebooks are disclosed. The first method involves providing one or more elongated transparent plastic envelopes having a plurality of aligned apertures adjacent a lower envelope edge, the apertures surrounding turns of the coled wire, the envelopes also having two open side portions and an upper closed envelope edge portion, and inserting index tabs through the open side portions until the tabs are contained within the envelopes. A 'snap-on' version, marketed apart from the notebook, is disclosed in addition to tabs which are affixed to the coiled wire during manufacture. A second method involves providing a flat elongated base member having at least one area for recording indicia thereon, and having first and second catch members at opposite terminal portions of the base member, separated from each other by a distance slightly less than the length of the coiled wire, and reducing the length of the coiled wire by asserting pressure thereon while slipping a hook portion of the base member past the coiled wire and about a turn thereof to mount the base member upon the notebook.

Method of mounting index tabs upon stenographic notebooks

An adjustable folder is disclosed with an overlap to accomodate variable contents. As the quantity of filed paper exceeds the current size of the folder, the overlap is moved to provide additional capacity.

Loose leaf retention mechanism, having a ring position shift mechanism, an elongated housing for containing the shift mechanism, coupling means for coupling first terminal portions of one or more continuous unitary (non-split) rings to the shift mechanism, and actuation means, coupled to the shift mechanism, for causing the shift mechanism to selectively assume a first position wherein second terminal portions of the continuous rings, widely separated from the first terminal portions, are positioned within the housing, or a second position wherein second terminal portions of the rings are separated from the housing to enable punched loose leaf sheets to be coupled to the rings.

Marking of edges and sides adjacent edges by a fibrous, porous member having a transverse slit. A barrel houses one or more fibrous, porous members which serve as reservoirs for a marking fluid. Openings in the barrel permit the passage of a sheet between the slits.

Edge marking of sheets

Method of binding loose leaf sheets together having multiple superposed punched holes while reinforcing the holes including providing a binding element having a tab portion and an elongated strip portion, affixing the tab portion to a face portion of one of the sheets and passing the strip portion through superposed holes within the sheets to be bonded at least once to bind the sheets together, and repeating the process for the remaining holes.

Method of binding and reinforcing loose leaf sheets

A lightweight anti-static panel electrically connected to a satellite pad. The panel comprises a cellulosic material impregnated with a conductive material. A grounding wire with a serial resistor connects the panel to an earth ground. The satellite pad is positioned at a convenient accessible location, for electrostatic discharge of a person or items.

Clipboard mounted retainer for writing instruments and the like

A marking implement in which an antistatic material is incorporated in the housing of the implement. The antistatic material is a nonionic fatty acid ester and the housing is of plastic. The antistatic material effects a significant reduction in surface resistivity of the polyethylene.
