Medical drug formulation and delivery system includes a reverse osmosis device for purifying water from a source comprising a housing having an inlet for passage of water from the source, a first outlet for passage of purified water from the housing and a second outlet for passage of waste water remaining after purification. A first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is disposed within the housing in fluid communication with the inlet for purification of at least a first portion of the water from the source. Water treatment chemicals can be positioned in a core about which the first reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is wound. The treatment chemicals are in fluid communication with the first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly to receive the first purified portion of water and for removal of at least chemical contaminants therefrom. A second reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is also wound on the core and is in fluid communication with the water treatment chemicals to receive the chemically purified water for purification of at least a second portion thereof. The second reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is in fluid communication with the first outlet so as to permit passage of the second portion of purified water therethrough. In one preferred embodiment, the first and second reverse osmosis assemblies are formed integrally in a side by side configuration. In an alternative embodiment, they are rolled about the core in an interleaf configuration.

A valve including a substantially rigid cannula and a valve member connected for operable communication with the cannula. The valve member is formed from a substantially resilient material and is movable with respect to the cannula between a first closed position and a second open position. The cannula cooperates to extend through the valve member during movement from the first closed position to the second open position to establish a fluid flow path through the cannula and the valve member. A sealing member is also provided which operates independent from a flow of fluid within the fluid flow path and independent from any component utilized with the valve to automatically provide positive sealing of an opening within the valve member when the valve member is positioned in the first closed position, the cannula extending through the opening during movement of the valve member.

A securable collar is used with two connectors to prevent the inadvertent disconnection of IV tubing sets. The securable collar includes a housing supported by one of the connectors, a radial flange extending from the housing, a collar having a frustum-shape, two notches that separate the collar into two longitudinal segments, a transition portion on the exterior of the collar, and a sliding annular locking ring. The locking ring slides on the collar from a small diameter portion over the transition portion to a larger diameter portion. The annular locking ring compresses the larger diameter portion to pivot the longitudinal segments radially inward at the radial flange to grip the second connector.

The securing collar includes a housing supported by one of the connectors, a radial flange extending from the housing, a tubular collar having a outwardly splayed end, at least two notches that separates the splayed collar into at least two elongated segments, a transition portion on the exterior of the collar, and a sliding annular locking ring. The locking ring slides on the collar from the proximal end over the transition portion to the distal segments so that the annular locking ring forces the splayed and segmented distal portions radially inward to grip the second connector.

A naso-gastric feeding tube (10) includes a hollow, flexible tube (12) having an open, proximal end (14) permanently secured to a hollow adapter (16), forming an integral unit. A stylet (56) is removably mounted within the stylet port (42) of the adaptor (16). A syringe (72) may be secured to the placement port (44) in order to conduct the placement confirmation test to assure proper insertion of the feeding tube within the patient, eliminating the need for removing and then reinserting the stylet to confirm proper insertion of the feeding tube (10). Additionally, the feeding tube (10) permits delivery of a second prescribed product without disconnecting the tube (10) from the source of the first prescribed product.

An in-line set filter for parenteral solution sets and the like which comprises a tubular housing having first and second ends. A bundle of filter tubes is positioned within the housing, the filter tubes preferably being folded so that all ends of the filter tubes occupy a single zone in communication with the first housing end. The zone is filled with potting compound with the filter tube ends communicating through the potting compound and open to the exterior. A flow access port is laterally positioned in a side wall between the second end and the potting compound but closer to the potting compound. The second end defines an open aperture occluded by a porous hydrophobic filter to permit venting while preventing loss of aqueous liquid.

In-line filter

In a fluid administration set of otherwise conventional design, an in-line chamber is provided having an inlet and outlet port communicating with the chamber and defining part of the path of flow through the set. A sealing piston is slidably movable by fluid pressure within the chamber and capable of occupying first positions in which the sealing piston isolates fluid in the chamber adjacent the inlet port from fluid in the chamber adjacent the outlet port. The sealing piston also can occupy at least one second position in which unlimited fluid flow is permitted between the inlet port and outlet port. A third port is provided for intermittently inserting a critical fluid into the chamber on the side of the sealing piston facing the outlet port. Thus the piston can be driven into the first position from the second position by this insertion, to prevent mixing of the critical fluid with fluid on the side of the piston facing the inlet port until the critical fluid has substantially passed through the outlet port and the piston moves to the second position. This permits the reliable, prompt administration of essentially the entire dose of a critical medication, particularly at low flow rates.
