A mass flowmeter of the Coriolis-type in which fluid to be metered is conducted through a flow tube which is coiled to define a helix having a pair of identical measuring loops forming a double loop, on either side of which is an isolation loop. The fluid is admitted into the input of one isolation loop and is discharged from the output of the other isolation loop. The helix is concentric with a support structure having at one end a flow inlet to which the isolation loop input is affixed, and at the other end a flow outlet to which the isolation loop output is attached. A rigid bar parallel to the axis of the helix is joined to the junction of the measuring loops as well as to the respective junctions of each measuring loop and its associated isolation loop whereby the isolation loops then function as decoupling springs to effectively isolate the bar and the double measuring loop from external forces.

Coriolis-type flowmeter

A vortex-shedding flowmeter for accurately measuring the flow rate of gases and liquid conducted through a flow tube provided with a dual-body shedder having a front section fixedly mounted across the tube, behind which is a pivotally mounted rear section separated from the front section by a gap configured to produce a fluidic feedback path so that a strong hydraulic interaction takes place between the sections and both actively contribute to the formation of periodic vortices which are alternately shed on either side of the shedder. The rear section is mounted on a pivot shaft extending along an axis normal to the flow axis of the tube, whereby the vortices which appear on either side of the rear section induce the rear section to oscillate. These oscillations are sensed to produce a signal representing the flow rate.

Dual-body vortex-shedding flowmeter

A flowmeter of the vortex type in which an obstacle assembly mounted in a flow tube causes vortices to be shed at a frequency that is a function of flow rate. The assembly includes a block fixedly mounted across the flow tube at right angles to the direction of flow, the block having a substantially square cross-section to present a flat face to the incoming fluid. The width of the block has its maximum value at the mid-point thereof and diminishes gradually toward either end where the width assumes its minimum value such that the upper and lower faces of the block are bellied and the front face has a double-convex contour. The maximum width value affords an efficient shedding action, the mean width value of the block being significantly smaller than the maximum value to substantially reduce the pressure drop produced by the meter.

Contoured obstacle assembly for vortex-type flowmeter

A flowmeter of the vortex type in which an obstacle assembly mounted in a flow tube of relatively small diameter causes vortices to be shed at a frequency which is a function of flow rate. The assembly includes a block fixedly mounted across the flow tube at right angles to the direction of flow, the block having a substantially square cross-section to present a flat face to the incoming fluid. The upper and lower rear corners of the block are bevelled to define a flat rear face of reduced area, the resultant block configuration acting to enhance the shedding characteristics of the assembly and to produce substantially linear flow rate measurements at low Reynolds numbers.
