An imaging bed for use with test subjects that keeps the subject sedated and warm throughout the imaging process. In embodiments, the bed uses radiant heating or cooling by pushing a heated or chilled fluid through the bed to control the temperature of the test subject during the imaging process. The imaging bed can also incorporate an integrated anesthesia channel. In embodiments, an exhaust channel removes the cool air, as well as the unused anesthesia from the imaging bed though an exhaust port. Various embodiments include a docking mechanism for easy connection of anesthesia to the bed, as well as an adapter for fitting smaller or multiple subjects simultaneously within the imaging bed.

Subject imaging bed

A versatile subject bed for use with one or more test subjects that is configured to keep the subjects sedated throughout either a surgical procedure or imaging process. In embodiments, the subject bed can include interchangeable manifolds allowing the platform to hold up to four subjects at the same time. The interchangeable manifolds can include configurations designed to provide for a single subject, two subjects or four subjects. The four-subject manifold can include an elevated platform that holds two subject side by side and allows the subjects to be stacked during imaging or other procedures. The subject bed can also incorporate an integrated anesthesia channel. Various embodiments include a docking mechanism for easy connection of anesthesia to the platform, as well as an adapter for fitting smaller or multiple subjects simultaneously within the subject bed.

Versatile subject bed

A fluid manifold that consistently and reliably delivers fluids to one or more subject interfaces is provided. A branched pattern of bifurcated lumina carrying the fluid from a source to the outlets in each subject interface provides substantially equal amounts of fluid to each subject interface, thereby reducing the risk of over- or under-delivery of the fluid. A fluid-scavenging system is also included. A plurality of exhaust inlets in the interior of the subject interfaces is connected to a source of negative pressure through a channel and exhaust port to collect fluid before it can escape the subject interface, thereby reducing the risk of escaping fluid reaching the atmosphere.

Fluid manifold

Fluorescent activatable probes for imaging biological processes and disease detection in vitro and in vivo. There is also described a method for detecting the presence of an enzyme. A sample is contacted with a nanoparticle including a monomer, at least one cleavable spacer comprising at least one fluorescence activation site, and at least two dyes of at least two types. The cleavable spacer is attached at one end to the nanoparticle. The at least two types comprise an energy donor type and an energy acceptor type. At least one dye of one type is embedded in the nanoparticle and the cleavable spacer has at least one dye of the other type attached. The at least two dyes comprise at least one matched pair capable of fluorescence resonance energy transfer. Fluorescence is detected by exposing the sample to a light source, and detecting emitted light with a detector.

Fluorescent NIRF activatable probes for disease detection

A torsional support apparatus is disclosed for craniocaudal rotation of test animals to enable multiple-view imaging. The animal is supported in a U-shaped loop of optically transparent material and the loop is moved to apply torsion to the animal to rotate it about its craniocaudal axis. Methods of imaging also are disclosed that use the torsional support technique.

Torsional support apparatus and method for craniocaudal rotation of animals

A method and apparatus for imaging a subject animal. The method comprises the steps of treating the animal with an x-ray contrast agent and an imaging agent; supporting the animal in an immobilized state on a support member; acquiring an x-ray anatomical image of the animal; acquiring an optical, dark-field image of the animal; and registering the x-ray anatomical image and the optical image, whereby features of the optical image can be observed in relation to features of the anatomical image.
