A bulk tank source of pressurized gas supplies gas to a consumption device, such as a beverage dispenser. A control valve is located between the bulk tank and the consumption device. A pressure monitoring system is connected to monitor the gas pressure between the bulk tank and the control valve. The pressure monitor system closes the valve when pressure drops below a first predetermined threshold, and opens the valve when the monitored pressure exceeds a second predetermined threshold greater than the first predetermined threshold.

Bulk tank cryogenic safety system

Drive apparatus for an array of organic LEDs including first switches connectable between a current source or a rest potential, second switches connectable to a power source, an array of LEDs with each LED having a first contact connected to one of the first switches and a second contact connected to one of the second switches, and control apparatus connecting selected switches of the first switches to the current source while retaining all remaining switches of the first switches connected to the rest potential, and periodically connecting selected switches of the second switches, one at a time, to the power source to generate a desired image on the array.

Organic light emitting diode array drive apparatus

A cordless telephone system is provided which includes a base unit operatively coupled to a user's telephone lines and a relatively compact portable cordless handset. Both the base unit and the cordless handset include a radio transmitter and a receiver which form a full duplex two-way FM radio link wherein the transmitter of the base unit and the receiver of the cordless handset operate on a first non-CB frequency and the transmitter of the cordless handset and the receiver of the base unit operate on a second different and distinct non-CB frequency. Both the cordless handset and the base unit include signal-injecting circuitry whereby a portion of the transmitter signal is injected into the input of the receiver to provide the local oscillator function for that receiver without undesirable cross-talk between the transmitted and received signals. The cordless handset also includes a keyboard for entering dialing information, security code identification switches for entering a user's identification code, a logic network responsive to the entered dialing information and security code information for generating data words indicative thereof, and an FSK-encoder including circuitry for generating a subcarrier frequency tone and circuitry responsive to the subcarrier tone for generating FSK-encoded equivalents of the data words. The FSK-encoded data words and the subcarrier frequency tone are superimposed on an FM modulated carrier for transmission to the receiver of the base unit. The base unit includes a microprocessor-based control system for controlling substantially all operational functions including ringing signal generation, security identification, line seizure, dialing signal generation, memory storage and recall, muting during identification and dialing, selecting T/R or R/O operation, and the like.

Microprocessor-based cordless telephone system

There is disclosed a processor controlled scanning radio receiver which employs a microprocessor controller to operate in various modes. One mode of operation is a search/recall mode wherein frequencies located during an automatic search operation are stored in a recirculating storage device for later user recall. The recirculating storage device is also employed to store frequencies or 'birdies' to be locked out during a search operation. The channels to be scanned are stored in an electrically alterable read only memory in which the channels are arranged in five banks having ten channels per bank. A keyboard is included via which a user may select or deselect any one or more banks for the scanning operation.

Processor controlled scanning radio receiver

There is disclosed a scanning radio receiver intended for use on the frequencies assigned to the Public Safety Radio Services and which is also operable for reception in the aircraft band from 118 MHz to 136 MHz. A voltage controlled oscillator is provided which is operable at frequencies up to nearly 175 MHz for producing an output signal for direct mixing with received signals in the low and high VHF bands as well as in the aircraft band and for tripling to provide a first local oscillator signal for UHF operation up to 512 MHz. A divider circuit is provided for direct countdown from the frequency of the voltage controlled oscillator to produce a low frequency signal for comparison with a fixed frequency signal of 5 KHz, or in the case of UHF operation, 4.167 KHz. The countdown circuitry along with the phase detector and divider circuits for producing the reference are all mounted on a single integrated circuit chip. Also, a shift register is provided on the chip for control of the divider circuits in response to data entered serially.

Scanning radio receiver and frequency synthesizer therefor

A duty cycle controller for an air conditioning system. Solid state switches are connected in series with the heating and cooling switches of a thermostat in circuits for energizing the cooling and heating subsystems, respectively, of an air conditioner. A switch control circuit, when enabled, causes the solid state switches to be conductive when set and nonconductive when reset. Timing signals from a counter applied to the switch control circuit determine the state of the switch control circuit and thus the duty cycles for the heating and cooling subsystem. The controller is provided with a safety circuit which disables the switch control circuit to render the solid state switches nonconductive for a predetermined period of time after a power interruption or after a cooling or heating switch of the thermostat opens. The controller assures that each heating and cooling duty cycle begins with a full energization period. The length of the heating and cooling duty cycles can be readily varied.

Duty cycle controller

An engine timing instrument as disclosed which is particularly designed for use with diesel engines and which responds to the actual time of firing within a cylinder. A strobe may be flashed at the crankshaft angle at which firing occurs and the crankshaft of the strobe flash may be advanced with respect to the firing angle until the strobe flash occurs at a top dead center position. The angle of advance of the strobe flash is measured to then indicate the angle of firing relative to the top dead center position. Important features relates to the use of a piezoelectric transducer placed in a glow plug hole to measure pressure, the transducer being connected to circuitry which provides both a firing pulse and a reference pulse. The reference pulse occurs close to and not later than the top dead center position and is used to measure the time of a subsequent firing pulse. Electronic circuitry is provided for counting and storing clock pulses and performing digital operations in a manner such as to obtain a high degree of accuracy.

Engine timing instrument

A digital electronic system for improving the resolution of dynamic range-handling capacity for received ultrasound in reflection or transmission imaging systems. This system provides a means for preventing loss of structural detail in the display by minimizing the overlapping of signals resulting from the transducer bandwidth and pulse length. It also makes use of a (positive or negative) peak detector to recognize and print as a single point the presence of point targets. With the present technology, a point target may be represented in a B-mode display on several successive scan lines resulting in an abnormally large representation on the display. The actual target is represented by the peak point of the envelope of a series of scan lines in which the point target is displayed. The objective is to print only one point which corresponds with the actual position of the point target with an intensity that corresponds to the intensity of the received signal. To accomplish this objective the received signal amplitudes are continually digitized and stored so that three successive lines of data can be compared. When a legitimate maximum is identified, a corresponding six-bit word is coupled to a PROM. Within the PROM are eight transfer functions, one of which is selected by a three-bit word address to the PROM and the selected function performs dynamic range compression of the received ultrasound. The four-bit PROM output couples first to a converter and from there to a suitable display means.

Peak detector for resolution enhancement of ultrasonic visualization

A signal-seeking scanning radio receiver employing a selective rescan delay circuit for delaying automatic resumption of multi-channel scanning for a period of time following termination of a signal on a tuned channel in response to an auxiliary output signal from a memory programmed to provide auxiliary output signals only for certain preselected channels tuned to a predetermined frequency on which two-way communications are anticipated without delaying automatic scan resumption for channels on which only one-way communications are anticipated.

Selective rescan delay for multi-channel scanning radio receiver

In general, dynamic range compression is required to prevent the wide intensity range of the received ultrasound from either saturating or overdriving the display. To accomplish this objective the received signal amplitudes are continually digitized and stored so that three successive lines of data can be compared. At any given instant of time, three resolution elements from each of these three successive lines are compared. A signal to print is transmitted to the display if the center resolution element of the three-by-three array is equal to or in excess of the surrounding eight resolution elements. The amplitude of the displayed point is established by a transfer function programmed into the system.

There is disclosed a signal-seeking, scanning superheterodyne radio receiver using frequency synthesizing apparatus to generate the required local oscillator signals and capable of receiving signals on all four bands comprising the public service radio frequencies. The frequency synthesizing apparatus includes circuitry for selectively altering the frequencies of the reference oscillator signal and the offset oscillator signal. Alteration of the reference oscillator signal frequency permits economical use of the same frequency synthesizing apparatus in different bands wherein the spacing between adjacent frequencies is different, whereas alteration of the offset oscillator signal frequency permits the generation of local oscillator signals which fall between multiples of the reference signal frequency.
