A display system comprising a foveal display having a monocular field of view of at least 1 degree is positioned within a scannable field of view of at least 20 degrees, the foveal display positioned for a user. In one embodiment, the foveal display is positioned for the user's fovea.

Steerable high-resolution display

A multi-mode display includes a mode selector to select one of a plurality of modes, each of the modes having a different light configuration, wherein one mode comprises a reduced color space mode, and one or more light sources controlled by the mode selector, the one or more light sources used to display content to a user with the multi-mode display.

Multi-mode display

A system comprising an illumination system to direct light from one or more light sources to a limiting output pupil of a projection optomechanical system, a liquid crystal on silicon display panel (LCOS) to modulate the light from the projection optomechanical system and to direct the modulated light back toward the projection optomechanical system, and an in-coupler to a combiner waveguide to receive the modulated light from the LCOS, after it passes through the projection optomechanical system. A system including an optical path length extender (OPLE) having two light paths having different path lengths, such that light entering the OPLE with a first polarization is directed through a first light path, and light entering the OPLE with a second polarization is directed through a second light path through the OPLE.
