A process for making a dry metal halide salt which will not form an insoluble flocculent material upon dissolving in water in which an initial aqueous solution of a metal halide salt is prepared and a member selected from the group consisting of ammonium chloride, ammonium bromide, borate anion producing compounds and mixtures thereof is added. Water is then evaporated from the initial aqueous solution and a dry metal halide salt is obtained. Upon dissolving this dry metal halide salt in water a clear, colorless solution results which does not contain an insoluble flocculent material. Alternatively, the member compound may be added to the dry metal halide salt, before it is dissolved in water or the member compound may be added to the water which is used to dissolve the dry metal halide salt.

Antiflocculating agents for metal halide solutions

A process for decolorizing iron-caused yellow color in brine solutions comprising adding a small amount of a soluble metal salt such as alugenite to the brine solution, neutralizing the solution and then filtering the solution to obtain a solution of a desired degree of clarity.

Removing or decreasing iron-caused yellow color in a solution

A process for the removal of hydrogen halides including HCl and HF, and/or sulfur dioxide from silicon tetrafluoride. Contaminated gaseous silicon tetrafluoride is passed through a column of zeolite preferably in the hydrogen cation form so as to permit recovery of silicon tetrafluoride containing less than about 10% of the original contamination levels. Acid-stable zeolite materials suitable for the process of the invention are subjected to a flow of hot gases to permit regeneration of the column for use in a semicontinuous process.

Purification of halide

A process for removing or decreasing the amount of color in a solution such as an oil well brine by adding hydroxylamine or hydrazine. The hydroxylamine or hydrazine may be added in any form such as the pure compound, a salt, the hydrate or the like.

Decolorization of calcium bromide brines

Metal bromides, and particularly alkaline earth metal bromides, are prepared from an alkaline earth metal compound and bromine in the presence of added lower alkanol as a reducing agent.

Metal bromide preparation

A process for removing solids forming iron impurities from a high density brine. The presence of these impurities in the generally clear brine oftentimes results in a green or brown color. Zinc dust is added to the brine to precipitate the iron impurities.
