The present invention reuses an accelerometer, or, more precise, sensed accelerations of a body sensor for user control of the body sensor. This is achieved by detecting predefined patterns in the acceleration signals that are unrelated to other movements of the patient. These include tapping on/with the sensor, shaking, and turning the sensor. New procedures are described that make it possible to re-use the acceleration sensing for reliable gesture detection without introducing many false positives due to non-gesture movements like respiration, heart beat, walking, etc.

Gesture control for monitoring vital body signs

The invention relates to a fall detection system, for detecting human fall incidents. The detection system comprises a sensor module to be worn by a user, for collecting motion data of his body, for instance acceleration data; first evaluation logic for identifying a potential fall incident on the basis of an impact observed in the acceleration data; and second evaluation logic for verifying that the sensor module is actually worn by the user, at least around the time of said impact, to prevent the system from raising an alarm if only the sensor module has fallen. The second evaluation logic may comprise free fall detection means for evaluating the acceleration data on characteristics which are typical for a free falling object, such as one or more full rotation and/or a free falling phase, during which the magnitude of the acceleration data is relatively stable and small. Additionally or alternatively the second evaluation logic may comprise body proximity detection means for detecting whether the sensor module is in close proximity to the human body.

Fall detection system

This invention relates to a device and a method of generating a first and a second fingerprint () usable for synchronization of at least two signals () and corresponding method and device for synchronizing two or more signals. A fingerprint pair is generated on the basis of a segment of a first signal e.g. an audio signal and of a segment of a second signal e.g. a video signal at each synchronization time point. The generated fingerprint pair(s) are stored in a database () and communicated or distributed to a synchronization device (). During synchronization, fingerprint(s) of the audio signal and fingerprint(s) of the video signal to be synchronized are generated and matched against fingerprints in the database. When a match is found, the fingerprints also determine the synchronization time point, which is used to synchronize the two signals. In this way, a simple, reliable and efficient way of synchronizing at least two signals is obtained. Further, this is enabled without modifying either the first and second signal (or subsequent signals). The signals may even be distorted or changed to some extent while still enabling synchronization.
