A liquid crystal display includes a backlight device which having a housing in which at least one tube-like fluorescent lamp is present. The housing forms a substantially dust-proof space. Part of the lamp extends outside the housing through a wall of the housing, which wall abuts against the lamp in a substantially dust-tight manner at the location where the lamp passes through the wall.

A method is described for determining the charge condition of a battery ( ), wherein the electromotive force (V ) is derived from measurements of the terminal voltage in a loaded condition, and the charge condition (Q) is determined with the aid of a pre-calculated relationship between (V ) and the charge condition (Q) on the basis of the (V ) thus calculated.

A first road marking unit with a first base plate is provided with a first light source, and a second road-marking unit with a second base plate is provided with a second light source. A view angle of 0.1&lE;&agr;&lE;8&deg; is formed between an interconnecting line, which interconnects the first and the second light sources, and an intersecting line which intersects the interconnecting line. In a view section where the view angle is 0.1&lE;&agr;&lE;8&deg;, light beams originating from the first and the second light sources demonstrate a uniform overlap in the view section at a distance a&gE;40 m from the first light source. Preferably, the distance d between the first light source and the second light source lies in the range from 10 &lE;d&lE;25 cm. The first and the second base plate of the road-marking units are integrated so as to form a base module.

A battery management system 100 comprises input means 102 for receiving input signals, such as current or voltage, which represent a physical quantity of a battery. In operation, processing means 105 of the battery management system 100 calculate a physical quantity of the battery, such as the State of Charge, based on the input signals by using an electrochemical/physical model of the battery. The model includes a representation of a main electrochemical storage reaction, whose behaviour is calculated in dependence on a battery temperature. The processing means 105 calculates the battery temperature based on a temperature model of a temperature development in the battery. The battery management system 100 comprises output means 104 for outputting an output signal which is derived from a state of the electrochemical storage reaction. The battery management system 100 is, advantageously, used in a smart battery 10 or a battery charger/discharger 200. The model is, advantageously, also used in a battery simulator.
