A liquid crystal display according to an exemplary embodiment of the present system and method includes a first insulation substrate, a thin film transistor disposed on the first insulation substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, a protrusion disposed on the pixel electrode, a second insulation substrate facing the first insulation substrate, a common electrode disposed on the second insulation substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode, wherein one pixel includes a thin film transistor formation region where the thin film transistor is disposed and a display area where the pixel electrode is disposed, and the protrusion is disposed to overlay at least a portion of edges of the display area.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display includes: a gate line connected to a gate electrode; a semiconductor layer disposed on the gate line and including silicon; an ohmic contact layer disposed on the semiconductor layer; and a data conductor disposed on the ohmic contact layer. The semiconductor layer includes a source region, a drain region, and a channel region disposed between the source region and the drain region. The data conductor includes a data line transmitting a data signal, a source electrode corresponding to the source region, and a drain electrode corresponding to the drain region. A channel step of the semiconductor layer is a height difference between an upper surface in the source region or the drain region and an upper surface in the channel region. The upper surface in the source region or the drain region has a maximum height of the semiconductor layer.

Liquid crystal display and manufacturing method thereof

A display device according to an exemplary embodiment includes: a plurality of transistors disposed on a substrate; a plurality of pixel electrodes electrically connected to the plurality of transistors; a plurality of first color filters, a plurality of second color filters, and a plurality of third color filters disposed between the plurality of transistors and the plurality of pixel electrodes; and a plurality of main spacers and a plurality of sub-spacers disposed on the pixel electrode, wherein the plurality of main spacers and the plurality of sub-spacers are disposed to overlap selected portions of the plurality of first color filters in a plan view, respectively, and not to overlap the plurality of second color filters and the plurality of third color filters in a plan view.

A liquid crystal display device including a display area, a non-display area surrounding the display area and including a first non-display area disposed on a first side, in a first direction, of the display area and a second non-display area disposed on a second side, in the first direction, of the display area, a first substrate including a first base and a plurality of spacers that are disposed on a first surface of the first base, a second substrate disposed on the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates. The spacers include first spacers, having a first thickness, disposed in the non-display area and second spacers, having a second thickness greater than the first thickness, disposed in the non-display area. A number of second spacers disposed in a first non-display area is different from a number of second spacers disposed in a second non-display area.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display includes substrates facing each other, plural pixels, a liquid crystal layer between the substrates, and a pixel electrode in each pixel. The pixel electrode defines: a first stem extending in a first direction, a second stem extending in a second direction, first edge bars extending in the first direction and connected to the second stem, second edge bars extending in the second direction and connected to the first stem, and plural branches extending from the first or second stem and inclined with respect to the first or second directions and terminating spaced apart from the first and second edge bars. Distal ends of each of the first edge bars are spaced apart from distal ends of each of second edge bars, and in the second direction, each of the first edge bars overlaps lines along which the second edge bars respectively lengthwise extend.

A liquid crystal display that improve display quality by reducing light leakage is presented. The display includes a first substrate; a plurality of pixels disposed on the first substrate; a plurality of signal lines disposed on the first substrate and disposed at an edge of the plurality of pixels; a second substrate facing the first substrate; and a light blocking member disposed on the second substrate, overlapping the plurality of signal lines, and overlapping the edge of the plurality of pixel areas, wherein a width of the light blocking member overlapping the edge of the plurality of pixels varies depending on the position of the plurality of pixels.

Liquid crystal display preventing contrast ratio reduction

A liquid crystal display device includes first and second substrates facing each other and including pixels, a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate to be provided in each of the pixels, and a common electrode disposed on the second substrate, where the pixel electrode includes first unit electrodes, each of the first unit electrodes includes four domains, which are arranged in two rows in a first direction and two columns in a second direction, the four domains include first, second, third, and fourth domains of a corresponding first unit electrode, each of the first unit electrodes further includes a first slit, which is an opening defined along boundaries between the first through fourth domains, and the common electrode includes second slits, which are openings defined along outer sides of each of the first unit electrodes.

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate including pixels, a gate line disposed on the first substrate, data lines disposed on the first substrate, a first reference voltage line and a second reference voltage line respectively disposed on the first substrate and applying a first reference voltage and a second reference voltage having different polarities from each other, a pixel electrode disposed in one pixel area and including a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode, where a first pixel column may overlap the first reference voltage line and the second reference voltage line, a second pixel column adjacent to the first pixel column may not overlap the first reference voltage line and the second reference voltage line, and a first width of the pixel electrode of the first pixel column may be different from a second width of the pixel electrode of the second pixel column.

A liquid crystal display includes a first panel including a first substrate, a first electrode which is disposed on the first substrate and which includes a stem unit including a horizontal stem and a vertical stem dividing a pixel into domains, a branch unit including branch electrodes and extending from at least one stem of the stem unit in one direction, and an external bundling electrode unit connected to an end of at least one of the branch electrodes and disposed along an edge of the pixel, a first slit pattern which is defined in the branch unit, a second slit pattern which contacts the vertical stem and is disposed parallel to the horizontal stem, a third slit pattern which contacts the horizontal stem and is disposed parallel to the vertical stem, and a protrusion unit which is disposed on an outer circumference of the external bundling electrode unit.

A display device includes a first substrate; a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate, including at least two sub-pixel electrodes separated from one another; a second substrate disposed on the first substrate; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates, each of the sub-pixel electrodes includes a stem electrode, an outer electrode connected to the stem electrode, a first branch electrode extending from the stem electrode or the outer electrode in a first direction, and a second branch electrode extending from the stem electrode or the outer electrode in a second direction, wherein an angle between the first direction and the second direction is in a range of about 170 to about 180 degrees.

A liquid crystal display includes a pixel electrode which includes a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode, a first insulating substrate and a second insulating substrate which faces the first insulating substrate, a common electrode which overlaps the pixel region, where the first subpixel electrode includes a first main unit electrode and a first sub unit electrode which is electrically connected to the first main unit electrode and smaller in area than the first main unit electrode, the second subpixel electrode includes a second main unit electrode, and a first opening part which overlaps the first main unit electrode, a second opening part which overlaps the second main unit electrode, and a third opening part which overlaps the first sub unit electrode and has a different shape from those of the first opening part and the second opening part are defined in the common electrode.
