A formed, filled, and sealed flexible container is provided with an attached port assembly. The container is formed from film folded to define opposing sidewalls which are sealed to define a chamber for sterile fluid. A hollow, tubular port member is provided with a V-shaped saddle and is sealed to the bottom of the container. The film at the bottom of the container is received in the saddle. A unique shoulder is defined by the tubular port member. The film is sealed to the shoulder and to the saddle of the port member. A hollow penetrator element is slidably disposed within the port member and is movable between a retracted position and an advanced position to puncture the film whereby fluid can flow out of the container. Internal formations are provided to guide and to limit the movement of the penetrator element. The container film may be provided with a crease along the bottom of the container.

Sterile formed, filled and sealed flexible container and draining administration port therefor

A port and cap assembly for a solution container is provided. The port includes a tubular wall having a first end and second end, the first end securable to the container and the second end being open and opposite to the first end. An annular flange extends perpendicularly outward from the cylindrical wall between the first end and the second end to define a neck portion of the cylindrical wall. A circumferential sleeve extends longitudinally downward from the annular flange. A radial lip extends generally perpendicularly inward from the sleeve. A resilient cap is also provided which includes a first portion resiliently stretched to cover the open end of the port and a second portion removably captured between the annular flange and the radial lip. The second portion of the cap after being removed from between the annular flange and the radial lip is not recapturable between the annular flange and the radial lip so as to indicate that the port has been uncovered. A method for assembling a port and cap to a solution container is also provided.

In particular, the present invention relates to a sterile formed, filled and sealed flexible solution container and a sterile administration port assembly which is attached without interrupting the complete sealing of the hermetically sealed fluid container and which allows for the sterile packaging, storage and delivery of a sterile medical solution without heat degradation or oxygen permeation.

Method for forming, filling and sealing a sterile flexible container

A solution pumping system including a disposable pump cassette is disclosed, with the system configured for efficient and accurate preparation of parenteral admisture solutions. The system includes a pump driver having a reciprocable pump plunger and a plurality of associated valve actuators. The disposable pump cassette of the system is configured for removable positioning in operative association with the pump driver, and includes a positive displacement pump configured for operation by the reciprocable pump plunger. The pump cassette further includes a plurality of liquid inlets, and at least one liquid outlet joined in fluid communication with the inlets. By selective operation of the valve actuators of the pump driver, one or more selected source solutions are drawn through the pump inlets by the positive displacement pump, and directed through the pump outlet to an admixture solution container. Preferred features of the present pump cassette facilitate liquid flushing to avoid mixture of incompatible source solutions, and enhance the sealing integrity of the cassette construction.

A plug is provided within a port in a flexible container. Extending from the port is a piece of flexible tubing which is used to connect with other tubing in a fluid system. Fluid is dispensed from the flexible container by grasping the end of the plug extending into the flexible container. The plug is then pulled into the interior of the container so that the opposite end of the plug which seals the flexible tubing extending from the port is unseated. The flexible tubing extending from the port is now open to the flow of fluid from the flexible container.
