A magnetic recording tape, as for audio apparatus, video apparatus, or computers, has a binder containing magnetic particles therein bonding the magnetic particles to the substrate. The binder comprises the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and a blend of a hydroxyl terminated polyester intermediate and a derivative of a bis-phenol A chain extender having the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, independently, is an alkylene having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, with 2 carbon atoms, that is, ethylene, being preferred.

Electron beam curable polyurethanes that have significantly improved dispersibility, improved magnetic pigment binder utility and result in improved magnetic tape for use in a variety of applications. This is accomplished by providing an oligomeric polyurethane that contains pendant carboxyl groups along the backbone chain.

Hydroxyl terminated liquid polymers that are excessively active in reaction with organic diisocyanates may be deactivated by treating the hydroxyl terminated liquid polymer with phosphoric acid or sulfuric acid prior to reaction with the organic diisocyanate so that the hydroxyl terminated liquid polymer is adjusted to an acid number of at least about 6 but not greater than 12. The treated hydroxyl terminated liquid polymer can be used to prepare polyurethanes having improved low temperature properties flexibility and hydrolytic stability.

Shelf stability of hydroxyl terminated liquid polymers is vastly improved by mixing a strong inorganic or organic acid, therewith in order to adjust acid number thereof up to about 12. Amount of the acid used is less than 1% by weight of the liquid polymer.

A process is provided for making reinforced rubbery sport and play balls by rotational casting, in a mold lined with a nonwoven fabric, a liquid polymer composition containing an epoxy resin, a liquid carboxyl-terminated polymer, an amine, a dihydric compound, and a plasticizer. The sections of nonwoven fabric in the mold are preshrunk and sealed together by means of an amine-terminated liquid polymer. The resultant sport and play balls have good dimensional stability and the desired flex and tear properties.

Rotocasting process for producing rubbery reinforced articles

Rubbery bladders are produced by rotational casting a liquid polymer composition containing (1) an epoxy resin, (2) a liquid carboxyl-terminated polymer, (3) an amine, (4) a dihydric compound, and (5) a plasticizer. In order to obtain the desired flex and tear properties, the equivalent ratio of the other reactants to epoxy must be from about 0.70 to about 1.15. The valve area of the bladder is reinforced with a spun bonded fabric.
