A compressor is provided and may include a shell and a stator. The shell includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The stator may be attached to the shell at the inner surface via a first stake. The first stake may be formed by deforming a portion of the shell into the stator.

Compressor staking arrangement

A compressor may include a shell, a housing fixed within the shell, first and second scroll members disposed within the shell, a sleeve guide, a fastener, and a washer. The first scroll member may have a first spiral wrap extending from a first end plate and a radially outward extending scroll flange defining an opening. The second scroll member may have a second spiral wrap intermeshed with the first spiral wrap. The sleeve guide may be disposed within the opening in the scroll flange and may define an axial bore. The fastener may be disposed within the axial bore and engaged with the housing. The washer may be located between a head of the fastener and the scroll flange. A first portion of the washer may extend radially outward from the fastener head and may define a rotational stop inhibiting washer rotation through engagement with a rotationally fixed structure.

A compressor may include a housing, a compression mechanism supported within the housing, and a seal assembly. The housing may include a suction pressure region and a first discharge passage in communication with a discharge pressure region. The compression mechanism may include a second discharge passage in communication with the first discharge passage. The seal assembly may be sealingly engaged with the housing and the compression mechanism to define a chamber and to provide sealed communication between the first and second discharge passages. The seal assembly may include a seal member engaged with the compression mechanism and including a leg having an opening therein. The leg may isolate the chamber from the discharge pressure region when in a first position and may provide communication between the chamber and the discharge pressure region through the opening when in a second position different than the first position.

A scroll machine utilizes a floating seal to isolate pressurized fluid to provide axial biasing. The floating seal is designed as a single piece plate with inner and outer annular seals. The inner and outer annular seals can be U-shaped, V-shaped or L-shaped and each configuration is oriented to provide pressure actuation of the seal. Additional embodiments add a discharge valve, a high temperature protection system or a high pressure protection system to the floating seal.

A rotary machine is powered by a drive shaft having a bore extending through it. A single piece lubricant flinger is disposed within the bore to form a lubricant pump. The lubricant flinger includes an upper plate located within the bore and a washer located adjacent the opening of the bore. The washer is connected to the upper plate by a connection section and the washer defines an aperture which allows fluid to flow into the bore of the shaft.

Motor compressor lubrication

A compressor assembly includes a shell which defines a discharge chamber. A discharge valve assembly is attached to the shell in communication with the discharge chamber. The discharge valve assembly includes a stamped or coined valve seat, a drawn tubular element and a stamped valve member. The stamping, drawing and coining operations used to manufacture the discharge valve assembly significantly reduce the manufacturing costs for the discharge valve assembly.

Discharge valve

A compressor has an hermetic shell within which is located an internal pressure relief (IPR) valve. The valve is resistance welded directly to a separation plate in a scroll compressor or directly to the outside wall of the discharge muffler in a piston/cylinder compressor. The direct welding of the IPR valve eliminates unnecessary components and lowers the manufacturing costs of the compressor.

A means for attaching the bearing housing to an outer shell is disclosed. The outer shell is plastically deformed into a plurality of apertures formed into the bearing housing. The deformation of the shell is such that material is displaced into the aperture of the bearing housing member without penetrating through the wall of the shell, thus maintaining the integrity of the shell. The shape of the displaced material of the shell is such that a generally cylindrical load bearing surface having a sharp corner is created which is capable of withstanding both axially and circumferentially directed forces of substantial magnitude.

A method of assembling a hermetic refrigeration motor compressor is disclosed wherein the motor stator is assembled in a first shell section, the compressor is assembled in another shell section and the two shell sections are aligned and secured together in such a manner as to insure a uniform air gap between the rotor and stator. The method employed enables the two shell sections to be initially locked in position before complete welding of the periphery so as to avoid potential heat distortion.
