The combustion assembly comprises an annular bore defined by the housing, at least one combustion piston disposed within the annular bore, and a sealing mechanism configured to selectively seal the at least one combustion piston relative to at least one corresponding wall of the annular bore. The engine comprises at least one rotary valve configured to move between a first position within the annular bore to allow the at least one combustion piston to travel within the annular bore from a first location proximate to the at least one valve to a second location distal to the at least one rotary valve and a second position within the annular bore to define a combustion chamber relative to the at least one combustion piston at the second location.

An impact protection device includes a first shell configured to be disposed on a body portion of a user, a second shell spaced at a distance from the first shell, and a set of elastomeric members spanning the distance between the first shell and the second shell. Each elastomeric member includes a first end and an opposing second end, each first end comprises a first end portion disposed within a corresponding opening defined by the first shell and a terminal portion disposed against an inner wall of the first shell and each second end connected to the second shell. The set of elastomeric members are configured to stretch between the first shell and the second shell in response to a translation of the second shell relative to the first shell and at a location that is substantially opposite to an impact receiving location of the second shell.

The engine includes an exhaust gas port disposed in fluid communication with the combustion chamber and a fuel distribution assembly configured to mix fuel from a fuel source and air from an air source into a fuel and air mixture at a location external to the combustion chamber and to deliver the fuel and air mixture to the combustion chamber.

The engine also includes a rotary valve comprising a circular faceplate and a wall structure disposed at an outer periphery of the faceplate, a portion of the at least one rotary valve disposed within the annular bore, and a rotary drive mechanism connected to the rotary valve and configured to rotate the rotary valve between a first position to align an opening of the wall structure with the annular bore to allow the piston of the piston assembly to travel within the annular bore from a first location relative to the rotary valve to a second location relative to the rotary valve and a second position to define a chamber relative to the piston of the piston assembly at the second location.
