A clamping system for preventing detrimental tensile and shearing stresses in heating walls used for example as partitions in industrial furnaces, comprises clamping plates adjoining opposite end faces of a heating wall plate, yoke-shape beams facing each clamping plate and interconnected by cross tie rods, and pressing elements between the beams and the clamping plates. The bias of the pressing elements is adjusted so as to decrease from the center of the clamping plate towards the upper and lower edges of the heating wall plate, the material of respective clamping elements being selected such as to keep the interfering forces within the limits of 5 to 20% of the original clamping forces, the resultants of the clamping forces being directed to the marginal area of each clamping plate, and the roughness in excess of 2.5 millimeters between the clamping plate and the heating wall plate being reliably compensated.

Clamping system for coke oven heating walls

A flexible seal member is secured to the periphery of the body of a coke oven door that is shaped to the contour of the receiving door jamb of the coke oven body. A seal edge of the seal member contacts the jamb in sealing relation. A plurality of spring pressing elements secured to the periphery of the door exert a constant sealing pressure on the seal member to maintain the seal member in sealing relation with the jamb. A plurality of stop mechanisms arranged on the periphery of the door maintain a preselected distance between the fastening point of the seal member to the door and the sealing surface of the jamb. A plurality of latching mechanisms positioned at selected regions on the door and secured to the coke oven body are operable to bend the door according to the contour of the jamb as the door experiences deformation during the coking operation. The bending of the door is also enhanced by reducing the moment of resistance of the door by providing longitudinal recesses therein. Thus, the seal member is maintained in sealing relation with the jamb as the door experiences deformation during the coking operation.

Coke oven door

A tool provided with a scraping edge is mounted on a support so that it can pivot about a substantially horizontal axis between a lower starting position, an upper end position and one or more intermediate positions in which the scraping edge of the tool engages the bottom surface of a coke oven door plug to scrape deposits off the same. An arrangement is provided for urging the tool towards its upper end position and thereby to make the scraping edge engage the bottom surface of the plug, and a tracking device prevents engagement of the scraping edge with the bottom surface of the plug unless the scraping edge is away from the region where the coke oven door is provided with a door seal.

Apparatus for cleaning the bottom surface of a coke oven door plug

The invention is concerned with an apparatus for scraping the bottom wall of a coke oven chamber adjacent the chamber opening so as to remove deposits which would otherwise prevent the sealing insertion of the chamber door into the opening. The apparatus has a support which can be inserted into and withdrawn from the chamber opening. A scraping tool is mounted on the support so that it can pivot between an upwardly tilted position which it assumes as the apparatus is being inserted into the chamber opening, and a downwardly tilted position in which a horizontally extending scraping edge of the tool engages the bottom wall of the coke oven chamber to scrape away deposits therefrom as the support is withdrawn from the chamber opening. A biasing arrangement biases the scraping tool into engagement with the bottom wall when the scraping tool is in the downwardly pivoted position.
