Method and system for control of hydraulic systems

A downhole tool includes, a tubular, a tooth profile on the tubular, at least one first actuatable latch complementary to the tooth profile and at least one second actuatable latch complementary to the tooth profile. The at least one second actuatable latch prevents movement of the tubular when actuated. Additionally, at least one actuator is in operable communication with the at least one first actuatable latch such that actuation of the at least one actuator while the at least one first actuatable latch is actuated and the at least one second actuatable latch is nonactuated causes movement of the tubular.

Actuatable subsurface safety valve and method

A connector is made up downhole and can connect electrical signal or power circuits. The male component features one or more circumferential bands on the exterior and the female component features like bands on its interior. The bands are preferably covered with removable sleeves until the connection is made up. In the preferred embodiment, the sleeves push each other out of the way as the connection is made up. The bands are preferably cylindrically shaped on their respective supporting connection half to make easy and reliable contact when the connection halves are advanced together without need for rotation to get the desired contact. Seals surround the connected contacts after makeup to keep out well fluids.

Annular electrical wet connect

A cable that delivers power, signals, or information is wet connected downhole. The lower portion of the cable can be in an auxiliary conduit to a main tubular and be installed already connected to sensors, instruments or other downhole equipment. The connection is made up downhole to connect a string with its auxiliary conduit to the portion of the string and its auxiliary conduit that are below. The cable already in the hole has an upper end ferrule for connection to a ferrule on the lower end of a cable delivered into the upper auxiliary conduit after the wet connect is made up. When the ferrules connect they are held together and a signal goes to the surface that they have connected. The auxiliary connected conduits have a lateral conduit in fluid communication for use in delivery of the cable with circulating fluid.

Optical wet connect

A system and methods for proportionally controlling hydraulically actuated downhole flow control devices using derived feedback control. The system comprises a downhole flow control device with a moveable element in a stationary housing. The moveable element is actuated by a balanced hydraulic piston. Hydraulic lines are fed to either side of the piston to effect actuation in either direction. A processor controlled, surface mounted hydraulic system supplies fluid to the piston. A pressure sensor measures supply pressure to the piston and a cycle counter indicates pump cycles and both sensors generate outputs to the processor. The downhole moveable element is cycled between end stops until successive moveable element breakout pressures are within a predetermined value as measured by the surface pressure sensor. A relationship is then derived between moveable element movement and pumped fluid volume and the relationship is used to move the moveable element to a predetermined position to control flow.

Method and system for controlling a downhole flow control device using derived feedback control

A spanner joint assembly for connecting between an upper riser and a conventional dual bore tubing hanger in a subsea well. The spanner joint assembly includes upper and lower spanner joint portions connected to each other through an emergency disconnect portion. The upper spanner joint portion has a longitudinal production bore and a longitudinal annulus. The lower spanner joint portion has a longitudinal production bore with a production bore valve and a longitudinal nonconcentric annulus access bore. The emergency disconnect portion includes an upper mandrel connected to the upper spanner joint portion and a lower mandrel connected to the lower spanner joint portion. A releasable mechanical connector includes a retaining groove in the lower mandrel and a collet connected to the upper mandrel. The collet has a latching portion extending beyond the upper mandrel which is adapted to be received in the retaining groove. An actuator sleeve extends around the collet and has a locked position and an unlocked position. The actuator sleeve maintains the collet latching portion in the retaining groove in the locked position and allows the collet latching portion to slide out of the retaining groove in the unlocked position. The production bore valve requires hydraulic pressure to hold it open and the production bore valve fails safe closed when hydraulic pressure is relieved.

Blowout preventer spanner joint with emergency disconnect capability

An improved subsea template system. A drilling template is adapted to rest on the seafloor. The drilling template includes at least one conductor guide through which a well is drilled. An alignment structure is attached to the top of the conductor guide and fits within a conductor guide of a production template. The production template includes at least one conductor guide more than the drilling template. Once engaged, the alignment sleeve serves to coaxially align the conductor guide of the drilling template with a corresponding conductor guide of the production template.

Subsea drilling and production template system

A gas lift assembly for installation in the interior of coiled tubing for providing gas lift to oil and gas wells. A housing assembly for receiving a gas lift valve is adapted to be connected in a coiled tubing and includes a tubular member having a bore with a holding shoulder in the bore of the tubing for holding a gas lift valve and a port. Preferably at least one passage way is provided for allowing fluids to pass when the gas lift valve is positioned in the bore. The gas lift valve may be of various geometries and materials for allowing the gas lift valve to be run into the well with the coiled tubing.

Coiled tubing gas lift assembly

A method and apparatus for recompleting an oil and/gas well inside of an existing well tubing in a well by supporting a coil tubing in the well tubing from a hanger assembly. A hydraulically actuated safety valve is connected in the coil tubing for controlling fluid flow through the coil tubing and is controlled by a hydraulic line connected to the safety valve and extending to the well surface outside of the coil tubing and inside of the well tubing. Packing is provided between the coil tubing and the well tubing and may include a well packer and/or annular safety valve. Gas lift mandrels may be connected to the coil tubing above the packoff.

Method and apparatus for recompleting wells with coil tubing

A surface controlled electrically operated solenoid subsurface safety valve is positioned in a well tubing in a well and controlled by an electrical control line extending from the solenoid coil to the well surface. One or more measuring sensors are positioned in the well for measuring a physical property of the well. The input of the sensor is connected to the control line for receiving electrical power and the output of the sensor is connected to the control power for supplying an output signal proportional to the measurement of the physical property. The output signal is distinguishable from the electrical supply current to the solenoid coil. A signal processor at the well surface receives the sensor output. Preferably the sensors are connected in parallel with at least a portion of the solenoid coil.

Combination electrically operated solenoid safety valve and measuring

A subsurface solenoid well safety valve which is locked in the open position, after being opened mechanically, for preventing the valve from closing. A valve closure member is controlled by a tubular member which is mechanically moved downwardly to open the valve. An armature movable in the housing is actuated by a solenoid coil for locking the tubular member in the open position to the valve housing. Deenergization of the coil releases the armature and the lock and allows the tubular member to be biased to the open position.

Subsurface solenoid latched safety valve

A subsurface solenoid operated well safety valve which is locked in the open position, after being opened by the solenoid, for preventing the valve from closing by various forces overcoming the solenoid. A valve closure member in the bore of a housing moves between open and closed positions and is controlled by a tubular member which is biased in a direction to close the valve. An armature is movable in the housing and a solenoid coil is energized to move the armature. A first releasable lock connects the armature to the tubular member for allowing the movement of the solenoid to open the valve. The first lock is released when the valve is opened. A second releasable lock locks the tubular member to the housing in the open position prior to the release of the first lock means. The de-energization of the coil releases the armature and the second lock to allow the valve to close.

Solenoid actuated well safety valve

A large diameter earth boring drill bit has a cutter mounting system that protects the cutter mounts from formation damage. The drill bit is of the type having a cutter support plate adapted to be secured to a string of drill pipe. A cutter shell is rotatably mounted on a bearing carrier and supported by a cutter mount that is secured to the cutter support plate. The cutter mount has two legs spaced apart, each leg having a slot for receiving a lug that extends from each end of the bearing carrier. The legs and lugs have apertures, with a wedge connector for insertion through for connecting the bearing carrier to the cutter mount. A protector member extends from at least one end of the bearing carrier, with the lug extending from the protector member into the slot. The protector member has a surface on each side of the lug that extends over and protects the end of the leg on each side of the slot from formation damage.
