A method for the production of a guide rail for linear guiding and having a hardened rolling body race groove on opposite sides of the guide rail. In order to minimize production costs and avoid cutting of the race grooves, the race grooves are initially spaced at a distance that is greater or smaller than their finally desired value, by an incremental distance. Grooves are provided centrally in the guide rail between the opposed race grooves, and the race rail is then hardened except in the region of the central grooves. Compression rollers in the race grooves or central grooves are then forced into the guide rail to decrease or increase respectively the distance between the race grooves until the desired distance therebetween is obtained. The method can also be employed when only a single race groove is provided on the rail.

A prong-type cage for rolling bearings formed by a ring and circumferentially spaced prongs or posts extending axially from the ring, defining pockets for separating the rolling elements, is designed to avoid being damaged when the mold parts are removed by recesses axially extending from the outer face of the ring axially into the posts.

In a process for the production of a heat treated bearing ring with at least one longitudinal slit extending axially therethrough formed by means of two abutting ends lying opposite one another in the circumferential direction, one or more flat band sections of heat treatable strip material are stamped with at least a holding tongue formed on one or both respective abutting ends and a holding recess on the opposite abutting end fitting the respective holding tongue with a force fit. The band section is bent to form a bearing ring, with each holding tongue of the one abutting end radially engaging the respective holding recess of the other abutting end on the respective longitudinal slit. The ring is then heat treated and then the holding tongue is broken out of its respective recess.

A rolling bearing for lengthwise movement has a support formed of sheet metal and having a cross-section that is corrugated in the circumferential direction, so that axially extending channels are provided for the rolling bodies. The cage is comprised of two halves joined together in a radial plane, and having turnaround zones formed therein.

A ball bearing for lengthwise and rotational movement on a shaft has circumferentially distributed endless rows of balls. It consists of an outer sleeve with an axially extending cylindrical race in its bore for the loaded balls of each row and a sleeve-shaped cage rotatably arranged in the bore of the outer sleeve. The cage has axially extending races for the loaded and unloaded balls and these guides are interconnected in pairs by semi-circular shaped radially outwardly open turnaround races. An axially extending return recess for the unloaded balls of each row is machined between each pair of cylindrical races, either in the cylindrical bore of the outer sleeve or on the cylindrical shaft. The invention relates to a rolling bearing arrangement for lengthwise movement of a housing (2) on one or two mutually parallel rails (1, 40, 49) with torque transmission, in which one cylindrical outer surface sleeve section (4) is arranged in a common housing on each side of a longitudinal central plane (3) of the rail and the inside of each sleeve section (4) guides two or more rows of rolling bodies (8), whereby the envelope circle diameter (14) under the loaded rolling bodies (8) of the rows of each sleeve section (4) and the diameter (15) of the cylindrical outer surface (16) of the respective sleeve section (4) have a common center point (17) in cross section. In order to prepare this rolling bearing arrangement from a conventional full cylindrical rolling bearing in an economical type and manner and to ensure a shock-free rolling of the rolling bodies on and off, the common center (17) of a sleeve section (4) is arranged displaced opposite to the respective other sleeve section (4) at a distance transverse to the longitudinal center plane (3) of the rail (1, 40, 49). The individual sleeve sections (4) are produced by longitudinally slitting a conventional full cylinder sleeve.

Rolling bearing arrangement for lengthwise movement of a housing on one

A rolling bearing for lengthwise movement on a shaft (6) has a cage assembled in the bore of a housing surrounding the shaft. The cage has at least one longitudinally extending guide slot extending radially therethrough and a rail supported in the bore of the housing and outwardly covering the guide slot. The rolling bodies, which are inserted in the guide slot of the cage, are arranged to run serially in rows between the longitudinally directed races of the rail and shaft. In order that the rolling body for lengthwise movement can withstand the greatest load forces in the angular deviation and bending of the shaft, the rail consists of at least two partial rails individually tiltably supported in the bore of the housing and arranged adjacent one another in the lengthwise direction.

A rolling bearing assembly for lengthwise movement with respect to a shaft has an outer sleeve with internal races, and a cage guiding endless rows of rolling bodies in the bore of the outer sleeve. The cage has a slit extending axially and radially therethrough, and the cage portion aligned with the slit is radially moveable, so that an entire row of rolling bodies adjacent said slit may be radially moved into a race formed in a shaft in the bearing. The sleeve may have a second slit spaced from the first slit. The second slit may be only partial, to define a region of bending, or may extend completely through the outer sleeve to define a segment, with the first slit, that is radially moveable.
