The present invention relates to a solder heating appliance with variable duty cycle. Rather than applying power continuously to the heating element, the element power is intermittently switched over to a variable duty cycle. Savings are gained in three areas: extended life of the element; less heat lost to thermal radiation; and less solder waste due to dripping and overheating. The variable duty cycle may be adjusted manually or automatically based on the temperature of the heating element, or tip. Additionally, the voltage and/or current to the heating element may be adjusted, either manually or automatically, for more rapid recovery during high usage periods. Higher throughput is achieved by sensing the temperature, comparing the temperature to a desired temperature, and then increasing the variable duty cycle by either or both one of increasing the frequency of duty pulses and/or lengthening the duration of the variable duty cycle.

The present invention relates to a portable adhesive dispensing appliance with adjustable duty cycle. Appliance for dispensing melt adhesive with variable duty cycle and method of implementing

The present invention relates to a blower dryer appliance typically used for drying and styling hair. When electrically activated, these appliances virtually always route electrical power to the fan or blower motor prior to or simultaneously with the heating element(s). Semiconducting switching devices used for regulating, controlling and/or switching electrical power generate waste heat that must be dissipated. Typically, heat is conducted and/or channeled away from the semiconducting switching device through a heat sink which is thermodynamic-mechanically coupled to the device. The greater the coverage area of the heat sink, the more waste heat can be dissipated depending on the ability of the heat sink to make contact with cooler, ambient air. This adds costs to the dryer/blower for engineering the heat sink, cost of the sink itself, and necessary design changes in the dryer/blower for accommodating the sink. The presently disclosed invention utilizes the inherent characteristics of the dryer/blower for channeling and reusing waste heat generated from an active switching device by positioning the active device in the air path of the blower. Relocating the heat generation portion of the control circuitry to the air path has three major benefits: greater cooling effect for the switching transistor and therefore more efficient transistor conduction and switching operation; utilizing smaller and less costly heat sinks; and the cumulative effect of combining the waste heat generated by the switch to the intentional heat effect generated by heating element(s).

The invention relates to a portable, cordless, hair dryer/blower that has an elongated hollow body portion with a mass center line and including therein a blower motor and a heating element and having a posterior end and an anterior end. A handle portion has a longitudinal axis extending substantially transversally from and along the mass center line of the elongated body portion. The handle portion includes switch controls for operating the heating element and the blower motor. A power source has a flat base and a mass center line that, when the power source is attached to the handle portion lies substantially along the longitudinal axis of the handle and the mass center line of the elongated body portion to provide power to the manual controls and to provide a flat base structure for enabling the hair dryer/blower to stand alone.

A communication system for wireless dual purpose phones operable at 1900 megahertz in the PCS system includes a plurality of transceivers wherein at least three communication links are formed. A first communication link is formed between the dual purpose phone and a base station of a cellular network. A second communication link is formed between the dual purpose phone and an antenna placed within an elevated location such as an attic. The antenna is placed in an elevated location to facilitate 1900 megahertz communications with the dual purpose phone throughout the business or home. The third communication link is between a transceiver proximately located and coupled to the elevated antenna and at a transceiver at an accessible location for the user. The use of multiple transceivers to place the antenna in an elevated location avoids a need to use a large, inflexible and aesthetically unappealing coaxial cable between the base unit and the elevated antenna.

A communication system is coupled to a cable television network wherein cable television signals, data signals and telephonic signals are transmitted on the coaxial cable infrastructure. To facilitate the simultaneous transmission of cable signals, data signals and telephonic signals, a frequency spectrum is defined for a coaxial cable network in which a band of frequencies for carrying telephonic signals is interposed in the cable television signals bands of frequencies. In a coaxial cable system capable of carrying signals up to 1 megahertz in frequency, a total of 5 frequency bands are defined. Within the frequency band for carrying telephonic signals, signals from a PCS system or the like as well as signals from other telecommunication devices, one system, such as SMS centers, base stations and mobile switching centers may be transmitted. Additionally, television channels may also be transmitted in this frequency band if the beginning of the frequency is at a frequency channel for carrying a cable television channel. A method includes transmitting the various types of signals within the specified frequency bands.

A personal communication network distribution system includes a predetermined number of node devices, a controller, and a network connecting the controller to each of the node devices. The network carries a time division multiplexed signal having a plurality of channels for carrying digital communication information signals between the controller and the respective node devices. Each respective node device is assigned a respective predetermined number of the plurality of channels for receiving digital communication information signals from and/or for inserting digital communication information signals into the time division multiplexed signal. The time division multiplexed signal also includes a second predetermined number of non-assigned channels. The controller assigns one of the non-assigned channels of the time division multiplexed signal to one of the node devices for receiving and/or for inserting communication information signals into the time division multiplexed signal based on call activity at the one node device.

High-intensity LEDs are mountd on or form part of an object to be illuminated. The object has first electrical terminals thereon that are coupled to the LEDs. A portable electrical circuit having second terminals for detachable coupling to the first terminals on the object causes the LED to flash and provide visibility to the object. The electrical circuit is contained in a package that has a first Velcro strip thereon. A second Velcro strip is mounted on the object near the first terminals so that the electrical circuit can be attached thereto by the Velcro strips and the electrical terminals coupled together.

In addition, the system also utilizes a serial interface input/output card in the central processor which detects the quality of the signal coming from each room in regard to frequency, signal level and deviation and stores those signals for maintenance purposes. Also, the system provides for long distance interrogation of the central processor over telephone lines so that the hotel/motel operating system may be reviewed from a remote distance.
