The invention relates to a method for grinding at least the running surface of a rail (), especially of a railway rail, by producing a relative movement between a grinding wheel () having a profile that mates the profile of the running surface, and a rail () in the longitudinal direction thereof. The aim of the invention is to avoid an overheating when large amounts of material are removed. To this end, the axis () of the grinding wheel () includes, with a plane () that is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rail (), an angle &#x3b1; that deviates from 0&#xb0;.

Method for grinding a rail, and device for carrying out said method

The invention relates to a method for re-profiling the running surface of a rail, preferably the convex portion of the rail head cross-profile of a rail, especially a railway rail, by peripheral milling. The aim of the invention is to obtain a profile that meets the requirements and has few corrugations. To this end, for producing the profile in a single peripheral grinding step, more than five, preferably nine milling tracks are produced that are oriented in parallel to the longitudinal direction of the rail. Optionally, the running surface, preferably the convex portion of the rail head cross-profile including the running surface is ground afterwards.

Method for re-profiling at least one running surface of a rail, and corresponding device

A milling process to produce profiles on rod-like workpieces at a high rate of cutting. The profiles are produced in cutting segments. An apparatus is provided wherein the cutting edges are mounted on a milling head. The milling head rotates about its own axis and performs a relative circulating movement about the axis of the workpiece as well as a relative linear feed movement. The rotational and circulating movements are coordinated with one another in such a way that in accordance with their different radial positions and different cutting edge shapes the individual cutting edges form the profile on segmental portions of the contour while successively moving into the profile plane of the workpiece.
