A guide rail, and method of making same, for the guiding and/or tightening of chains that are used in internal-combustion engines, for example, for driving camshafts, auxiliaries or the like is disclosed. For reasons concerning weight and manufacturing, the guide rail consists of a plastic material and is formed by a slideway lining body and a carrier. Both the carrier and the slideway lining body are produced in a progressive manufacturing cycle and are interconnected via one or several dovetailed connections.

Guide rail for drive chains

An air-cooled multi-cylinder internal combustion engine in which cooling air flows through a cylinder row transversely to the cylinders. A one-piece deflection part made of light-metal or plastic material and covering all cylinders is arranged as air guide device at the cooling air discharge side.

Air-cooled multi-cylinder internal combustion engine

A hydraulic chain tightener with a hollow piston longitudinally movably guided within a hydraulic housing; the hollow piston is closed off at the top by a throttling plug and the hydraulic housing is to be vented by way of the channels of the throttling plug; an expansion space is formed between the throttling plug and the pressure space present at the bottom side of the hollow piston, which is closed off with respect to the pressure space by a ball check valve; during chain impacts on the hollow piston and corresponding pressure increases in the pressure space, the check valve opens and enables by pump action a rapid venting of the hydraulic housing.

Hydraulic chain tensioner

A hydraulic chain tensioner with a hollow piston longitudinally guided in a hydraulic housing which is closed off at the top by a plug provided with an external thread; the plug is pressed into a smooth central bore of the hollow piston and the thread grooves are in communication with the atmospheric air by way of radial channels of the hollow piston, thus permitting a venting of the hydraulic housing; a further venting possibility exists by an excess pressure valve which is built into an ante-chamber disposed parallel to the hollow piston.
