During the service of a workstation of a textile machine, a thread, presented to a spool apparatus, is captured by a capture mechanism coordinated with the spool apparatus and conducted to a thread cutting device to be cut through. The thread cutting device is coordinated with a cleaning apparatus, with the help of which the thread cutting device at specified intervals, and/or in dependency of the carrying out of assigned work phases is subjected to cleaning.

An apparatus is provided for the transfer of a thread (1) carried in a low pressure air stream being delivered to a rotating spool (7) with which a capture apparatus (4) runs in synchronism for the pick-up of the thread (1) which is set before it by a thread dispensing unit for this purpose. This thread dispensing unit exhibits two thread guides (31, 30) which hold the thread (1) at right angles to the travel path of the capture apparatus (4). Respectively, the first thread guide (31) forms a hold-back element which acts to restrain the thread (1) during the formation of a reserve winding in the spool border and to release the thread (1) for the formation of the normal winding. This first thread guide (31) is governed by a controllable drive (33), with the help of which, the open side of a thread guide groove (312) of this first thread guide (31) is pivotable out of a thread restraining position (S.sub.1) into a thread release position (S.sub.2). The second thread guide is also the opening (30) of a suction system.

A method of stopping a spool which is driven by a continuously rotating spool roller on an open-end spinning machine. The spool is lifted off the spool roller and a braking roller is placed on the peripheral surface of the spool, after which the braking roller is braked to a stop. In this case, the roller is driven substantially at the peripheral speed of the spool roller before being placed on the spool. In order to perform the method, the braking roller has associated with it a braking device which is connected for control purposes to a spool-changing device. The braking device is constructed as a direct-current machine with a resetter.

In order to form parallel windings in the longitudinal end region of the empty tube, a drive roller, which is driven at a peripheral speed adapted to the constant thread withdrawal speed provided for the subsequent formation of the crosswinding, is placed onto the peripheral surface of the empty tube, which has been lifted from the winding cylinder, and the thread, which is delivered at a constant speed, is passed to the then driven empty tube. After formation of the reserve winding, the empty tube is lowered onto the winding cylinder. The thread is displaced towards the middle of the bobbin and, by way of adaptation to the shortening of the thread run occasioned thereby and to a change in diameter possibly then brought into effect, the peripheral speed of the drive roller is altered to maintain a constant thread wind-on tension. The thread is passed to the cross-winding device, and the drive roller is lifted from the empty tube. To form the reserve winding, a thread guide is movable into the region of the empty tube, which is held at a distance from the winding cylinder by the bobbin-lifting device. The drive of the drive roller together with the thread guide is connected to a common control device.

A process and device is provided to handle the yarn after piecing or bobbin replacement where conical bobbins are used. According to the process and with the apparatus, the yarn is transferred to the yarn guide in such a manner that the yarn is first guided in direction of the smaller diameter of the bobbin or former before the winding of the yarn over the entire bobbin width of the bobbin takes place.

A process for the piecing of a yarn end on a open-end spinning machine. The yarn is backfed a first time from a cross-wound package, the backfeeding is interrupted and the yarn is clamped at a predetermined distance from the package and the free end is cut. The backfeeding is then resumed for a predetermined period of time and the yarn is temporarily stored between the clamping point and the package. The stored yarn is then wound onto the package in a plurality of parallel windings upon a predetermined generating line. The yarn clamp is released to backfeed the yarn remaining in the temporary storage device and to stretch or tension the yarn between the package and the backfeeding means. The yarn is reclamped and the excess yarn is cut to a predetermined length. The yarn is backfed to the spinning rotor of the open-end spinning machine to combine with fibers in the rotor to piece up the yarn, which is then drawn off the rotor and wound onto the package. The invention also includes apparatus for carrying out the method.

A device and process for piecing yarn on an open-end spinning device where a yarn is fed back either from the winding bobbin on which it had been wound previously, during the spinning process, or from a special piecing bobbin via a common back-feeding path to the spinning device. The piecing yarn, drawn off from the piecing bobbin, as well as the yarn drawn off from the winding bobbin is first subjected to the effect of a controllable draw-off action at the beginning of this common back-feeding path upon completion of the piecing process. The yarn, which continues to be delivered by the spinning device, is subjected to the effect of normal spinning draw-off only upon reaching the full draw-off speed and is transferred to an empty tube located in the winding device, whereby the excess yarn segment with the piecing joint is severed and removed when replacing the winding bobbin. A feeding device with a pair of auxiliary rollers is provided to feed the piecing yarn to a back-feeding device, whereby a roller of the pair of auxiliary rollers can be assigned to the bobbin lifted off from the winding roller as a drive roller and can be driven by means of a controllable drive.

Process and device for piecing yarn to an open-end spinning device

When a thread is joined in an open-end spinning device, the thread is fed back into the open-end spinning device as a result of reverse rotation of a bobbin and a pair of auxiliary rollers. After the feedback has ended, the thread is released by the pair of auxiliary rollers and, until normal spinning draw-off is started, the thread is subjected to an auxiliary draw-off at a greater distance from the open-end spinning device than the normal spinning draw-off. This auxiliary draw-off can be carried out exclusively by means of the bobbin or also independently of it. An auxiliary draw-off device serves for generating this drawing force and is located at a greater distance from the open-end spinning device than the pair of draw-off rollers.

Process and device for joining a thread in an open-end spinning device

In order to wind a newly joined thread onto a tube newly inserted on a spooling device on an open-end spinning mechanism, the newly joined thread, together with a thread portion containing a leader, is guided away before the start of the bobbin build-up. Thereupon, the thread portion containing the leader is severed from the thread, and subsequently, the thread supplied by the open-end spinning mechanism is transferred to the newly inserted tube. To exchange a full bobbin for a new tube, a thread break is produced, the open-end spinning mechanism is cleaned and the thread is thereupon joined anew. To carry out this process, there are, on an open-end spinning mechanism, provided with a thread-joining device and a spooling device, a thread-suction device (4), a thread feeder (42) transferring the thread (35) supplied to the thread-suction device (4) to a newly inserted tube, and a thread-severing device (41) assigned to the thread-suction device (4).

In a pivotable suction tube (3) for taking up a yarn from a bobbin, there is provided for transfer of the yarn to an operating element, on its side facing the bobbin, an elongate slot (32), with which is associated a controllable closure piece (33, 35) extending over at least a substantial portion of it. The suction tube (3) possesses a tubular section (30) having a shape being symmetric to its axis with which is associated as a closure piece a rotatable slider (33) provided with an axial slot (330). The closure piece (33, 35) carries a stop (333, 352) with which is associated a counter-stop (20, 410) which becomes effective in dependence on the pivoting motion of the suction tube (3).

Both threaded grooves have different core diameters (d.sub.1, d.sub.2), the smaller core diameter (d.sub.2) being towards the free end of the centering spindle (5) so that the yarn is immediately and with certainty ejected from the free end of the spindle during reverse rotation.

The method and apparatus for removing irregularities in a thread being produced on a machine as the thread is traveling to a takeup device. A thread reserve having a suction applied thereto causing a loop to be formed therein which contains said irregularity. An additional pair of loops are formed in said thread, one above and one below the thread reserve. The loop formed in the end of the thread reserve is severed from the thread and the two remaining loops are inserted into a thread joining device. A thread suction extractor associated with the thread joining device pulls the end portions of the pair of loops taut permitting the joining operation to take place and, after joining of the thread, removing the separated ends. The thread reserve is provided with mechanism for maintaining the loop of thread extending therein separated and for severing and removing the portion of the loop containing the irregularity from the thread.
