A luminous electric display unit is disclosed in which glass tubing containing inert gas such as neon is entirely or substantially enclosed within a protective housing, thereby providing protection both for the glass tubing and the public.

An improved tubular bulb supporting clip is disclosed. This clip allows for multiple modes of movement between the bulb supporting portion and the stationary stem of the clip. This structure allows for proper support of the tubular bulb even if the bulb has imperfections therein or the clips are not precisely positioned.

A lighting unit that reduces the effect of back lighting having a housing assembly containing an elongated bulb having a longitudinal axis which is horizontally aligned; a transparent and central section, the transparent portion containing the mounted bulb and having spaced apart tabs mounted on an inside surface thereof; and a sun shield attached to the housing assembly. The sun shield, which is positioned between a source of bright light independent of the housing assembly and the housing assembly, having a shield portion and a mounting portion, the mounting portion comprising a bracket portion perpendicular to the shield having a fastener receiving hole through which a fastener is passed to attach the sun shield to the housing assembly. The sun shield also provides protruding members on an outside surface, and at least one catch member on the inside surface, whereby the sun shield may also be attached to the housing assembly by placing the catch member of the sun shield over the protruding member of the housing assembly. The sun shield further comprises a piece of opaque film placed between the tabs which are mounted on the inside surface of the transparent portion of the housing assembly, the film being flush with the inside surface of the transparent portion of the housing assembly within which the bulb is mounted.

Sun shields for housing assemblies containing illuminated glass tubing

Improved structures for housing assemblies for illuminated glass tubing are provided with this invention which comprises a housing assembly with a base section having wall portions forming an elongated channel having an open side; a central section having wall portions forming an elongated channel having an open side; and a light-transmitting cover section having wall portions forming an elongated channel having an open side; the central section secured to the cover section to form a light unit, the light unit being shorter than the base section; an elongated support plate for glass tubing, the wall portions of the central section including means adjacent the open side of the central section channel for supportably receiving the support plate in the channel; and the wall portions of the base section and the central section including means for securing the central section to the base section in snap-fit relation to close said open sides of said channels; whereby the longitudinal position of the light unit on the base section may vary based upon where on the base section the light unit is secured. These structures include better venting and drainage of the cover section of the assembly.

Wall mounting for neon lights

A longitudinally curved, modular housing assembly for the protective support of illuminated glass tubing, such as neon lights, characterized by interconnected base, central, and cover sections which are all curved and have equal radii of curvature. The configuration of the housing assembly is such that it permits combination thereof with other, similar, housing assemblies to provide continuous lighting systems having various shapes and outlines. The housing assembly preferably contains a transformer and wiring for connection to a power source.

Curved housing assembly for illuminated glass tubing and method

An electric luminous display unit for conveying visual information including a housing comprising an opaque front face portion of substantially rigid molded plastic, an elongated groove in the front face portion of the housing, inert gas-containing glass tubing located in the groove and extending therealong, and electrical means located behind the front face portion of the housing and electrically connected to ends of the glass tubing for supplying electrical energy to illuminate the same. In one embodiment, an edge-lighted board is described for receiving written information thereon.

A housing assembly for protective support of illuminated glass tubing of the neon tube type comprising a base section, a central section, and a transparent cover section, each having wall portions forming an open sided elongated channel, a support plate mounted in the central section, elongated glass tubing disposed in the cover section and supportably mounted on the support plate in fastening clips, the base, central, and cover sections being formed of resiliently deformable material, such as plastic, and being assembled in snap-fit relation with each other to enclose the open sides of the channels. End caps enclose ends of the cover and central channels and protect the glass tubing and an electrical transformer and wiring disposed therein against weather. The housing assembly may be extrusion molded in varying lengths, and a plurality of assemblies may be connected in a series array and powered from a single low voltage source to provide decoration and lighting to a desired area, such as a building, amusement ride, or the like.

An electric luminous display unit for conveying visual information including a housing comprising an opaque front face portion of substantially rigid molded plastic, an elongated groove in the front face portion of the housing, inert gas-containing glass tubing located in the groove and extending therealong, and electrical means located behind the front face portion of the housing and electrically connected to ends of the glass tubing for supplying electrical energy to illuminate the same.

Method and apparatus for restraightening depending bent metal end skirts of cylindrical containers, such as beer kegs, wherein the containers moving in a path of travel for processing are automatically interrogated by sensing heads which engage the rims of the normally circular end skirts of the containers to detect the presence or absence of a bent portion thereof. Containers having detected bent skirt portions are directed from the main processing path to a skirt straightening station where the ends of the container are supported in retaining rings of upper and lower straightening heads while arcuately spaced pry levers, or paws, located centrally in each retaining ring move radially outward from a central nested position to engage inwardly bent skirt portions of the container to lift and push the same outwardly into a circular configuration. The container is rotated in the rings between engagements by the paws to bring all portions of the skirts into position for straightening. Straightened containers are moved to a holding station where they are reinserted into the main path of travel as a subsequent detected bent container is moved from the main path into the straightening station.
