Disclosed in the current invention is a way to build a low cost and highly efficient surf pool by using diverging and converging swells to create waves for surfing. When a plurality of individual plunger wave generating devices or a single triangle pyramid shaped plunger, force a diverging swell into a first end of a surf pool. The swell then diverges or expands outward until the swell is wide enough to break over an artificial surfing reef. When a plurality of individual plunger wave generating devices in different opposite locations in the surf pool pushes a swell into the surf pool, as the swell transverses it converges into a single swell, which then continues to travel and breaks over an artificial surfing reef.

A wave making apparatus for creating a surfing wave in a body of water. The waves are generated using a round bottom and front mechanical plunger. The plurality of round front plungers are assembled side by side in a vertical manner on a 90 degree back wall. The individual round front plungers actuate up and down, all at the same time, at different times, in sequence and can be placed in different shaped configurations to produce a swell into a body of water which then break of artificial surfing reefs to create a wave for surfing.

The present invention is a shipping container water displacement activated wave generating device for use in a body of water. The wave generating device preferably has displacement forming characteristics that help to create laminar waves which then transverse a slope or artificial surfing reef to create waves which surfing maneuvers can be performed. The water displacement device is a wave container, which is oscillated up and down by mechanical means and the container displaces water to form a swell toward the slope or reefs and creates a wave for surfing.

A wave making apparatus for creating a surfing wave in a body of water. The waves are generated using a controlled up and down motion of Fiber Glass, (FRP), or EPS Geo Foam Mechanical Plungers in a way that allows the control and shape and therefore surf characteristics of the wave. The plunger wave making apparatus is assembled side by side in a vertically manner on a 45-degree sloped back wall. Water ballast is added to the front and main compartments of the wave making plungers to optimize power requirements to power the plungers up and down to produce the waves into the body of water.

With the wave catch basin extending along the length of the beach, the wave catch basin will allow water to go over an infinity edge and settle in the wave catch basin, wherein wave energy backflows are eliminated and rip currents are avoided. With the wave catch basin extending along the beach side of the surf pool, the water that is collected in the wave catch basin and by pumping water out of pipe fittings or creating positive suction into pipe fittings, alters the flow of the rip current, thereby altering the wave formation characteristics. As the rip currents enter the rip current flow channels on both sides of the surfing reef, water can be suctioned down through return pipes or pumped in any direction along the surf pool bottom to stop the rip currents in the rip current flow channels, which helps the breaking waves from becoming distorted as they break.

The present invention is an artificial surfing reef for modifying a body of water's bathymetry to create surfing waves. The artificial surfing reef is a shaped structure made up of many sized and shaped Expanded Polystyrene Geo Foam blocks. As swell moves toward the shore, its bottom is resisted by the leading edge of the Expanded Polystyrene Geo Foam artificial surfing reef. As the swell transverses over the Expanded Polystyrene Geo Foam Artificial reef, the wave topples over and forms a plunging surfing wave. An earth anchor, connected to a cable, linked to a round shaped anchor disc, is attached to each Expanded Polystyrene Geo Foam block for maintaining the foam artificial reef at a desired location submersed underwater. A plurality of Expanded Polystyrene Geo Foam blocks may be attached to one another and configured so as to define a surf reef, which enhances the suitability of waves for surfing.

A surf pool design comprising of an artificial contiguous reef, consisting of a first and second reef sub sections and a specific surf pool design that function together to create a surf pool for recreational surfing. Aspects of the invention provide a surf pool including a contiguous artificial reef of any shape or size. The continuous artificial shaped reef can include an inclined slope traversing the reef from the tip of the first artificial reef sub section to the open end of the second artificial reef sub section. The definition for the purpose of this invention an artificial contiguous reef, is a reef that is angled, contoured and shaped to the bottom of the surf pool. The meaning of pool in the embodiment is any artificially created body of water such as a pool, lake or lagoon which is constructed for the purpose of recreational surfing.

An apparatus for creating a surfing wave in a body of water. An apparatus for the purpose of efficiently producing a variety of surfing waves having a repetition rate and size suitable for surfing. The waves are generated using a controlled up and down motion of mechanical plungers in a way that allows the control of the shape and therefore surf characteristics of the wave. A linear array of plungers is used so that they interact in different ways with bathometry of the body of water and can be changed to further alter the surfing characteristics of the waves. The motion of the individual plungers can be adjusted so that effects of different wave travel distance to the bathometry can be compensated for consistent wave characteristics.
