An apparatus for producing stress on a surface, comprising one or more service assembly and one or more cleaning assembly. The service assembly comprises one or more means for applying dirt to said surface, or one or more means for scuffing said surface, or one or more means for dragging a test material across said surface, or a combination thereof. The cleaning assembly comprises one or more scrubber, or one or more burnisher, or a combination thereof. Also provided is a method of testing a surface with such an apparatus.

Method for reading test strips

The clogging of junctions of electrochemical reference cells by contaminants is prevented by a triple junction design incorporating dual, independently operative flushing conduits. The first conduit flushes the exterior of the first junction and the exterior of the second junction, and the second conduit flushes the interior of the second junction and the exterior of the third junction. When the cell is used in-line on a chemical process stream, pressure equalizing means are employed between the stream and the standard electrode, of which the third junction is an element. Elevation of the exits of the flushing conduits above the junctions releases air from the cell which may collect at the junctions and impair the accuracy of the readings.

Flushable reference cell for potentiometric measurements

The apparatus disclosed is for cutting elongated material, such as molding, at any desired angle to its longitudinal axis selected from a group of angles available for forming miter joints and the like. The apparatus includes two members that are connected intermediate their ends in side-by-side relationship for relative pivotal, scissor type, movement around a common axis. Portions of the members on one side of the pivotal axis provide jaws and the portions on the other side provide handles for moving the jaws toward and away from each other. One of the jaws carries a cutting edge. A base plate is mounted on the other jaw for pivotal movement around an axis parallel to the direction of movement of the jaws. A stop plate is attached to the base plate to provide a guide to engage the material to be cut and to position it on the plate. An index is provided to indicate the position of the base and stop plate relative to the line of cut so that the plate can be rotated to position the material to be cut along an angle to its longitudinal axis selected from several angles available.
