A method for high speed melt spinning of binder fiber by melting a polymer having a melting temperature range of greater than 0&#xb0; C. to 160&#xb0; C., spinning said polymer at a speed of greater than about 2000 meters per minute to form the binder fibers; and winding the binder fiber onto a spin bobbin.

Tacky polymer melt spinning process

The present invention is directed to a process for forming a yarn having at least one conductive filament wherein the conductive and nonconductive filaments which make up the yarn are simultaneously co-spun. The present process can be performed at spinning speeds of above about 3500 meters per minute to produce a yarn useful in antistatic carpet production.

Process for forming a yarn having at least one electrically conductive

Heatset, textured (e.g. stuffer box textured), continuous filament, nylon carpet yarn useful for making textured carpets is disclosed. The yarn is made from nylon 66 copolymer. Textured carpets made from the yarns of the invention have improved aesthetics and/or appearance retention characteristics as compared to textured carpets made from nylon 66 carpet yarns.

A polyamide (preferably nylon 66) partially oriented feed yarn contains a small amount of branching agent and has an elongation between 45 and 150%. The feed yarn can be textured by the friction twist process to yield a textured yarn having crimp development similar to yarn textured by the much more expensive pin twist method.

A particular elastomeric polyurethane polymer is heated to about 225.degree.C. to ensure complete melting prior to extrusion side-by-side with a molten hard polymer. The polyurethane polymer is made from an aromatic diisocyanate, a high molecular weight (800-3000) diol and a low molecular weight (500 or less) diol, combined in specific ratio ranges.
