The present invention is a liquid cooled electric machine (10) having enhanced cooling of the end turns (22) by providing intimate contact between the end turns and coolant fluid flowing through a first annular flow channel (34) and a second annular flow channel (50). Furthermore, a cylindrical liner (62) which is force fit within the annulus of the stator 12 forms part of the first and second annular flow channels and further provides support against radially inward deflection of the end turns (22). Furthermore, the invention is a cooling system (200) for an exciter generator in a self-excited electric power generator which has a liquid coolant circuit (216) which splits coolant flow between an inside surface (222) of a fullwave rectifier assembly (214) and an outside surface (226) of the fullwave rectifier assembly which absorbs heat from the rotor of the exciter generator.

Electric machine with enhanced liquid cooling

A two-pole generator rotor assembly including a one-piece shaft, a prewound field coil assembly and a one-piece shaft. The one piece shaft includes a pair of axially spaced shaft end portions and a substantially cylindrical portion integrally formed with the spaced shaft end portions and interposed therebetween. The substantially cylindrical central portion includes a through slot for accommodating the prewound field coil assembly, with the through slot including a pair of opposed wall portions adapted to engage an outer peripheral portion of the prewound field coil assembly and provide means for retention of the prewound field coil.

One-piece rotor shaft for two-pole rotor

A machine assembly (10) of a first metallic part (22) having a first coefficient of thermal expansion which is mounted within a second metallic part (12) having a second coefficient of thermal expansion greater than the first coefficient of thermal expansion by an interference fit between surfaces of the parts with the first part having an outer cylindrical surface (44) and a second part having an inner cylindrical surface (24) prior to mounting with the interference fit between the surfaces in accordance with the invention includes at least three projections (26) projecting radially from one of the cylindrical surfaces at at least three equally spaced apart locations on a periphery of the cylindrical surface from which the projections project which extend axially along the one cylindrical surface with the projections forming the interference fit between the surfaces at points of contact with another of the surfaces; and wherein, the machine assembly has an operating temperature range extending from a lower temperature (-65.degree. F.) to an upper temperature (450.degree. F.) with the interference fit holding the surfaces at the upper temperature with a minimum of inward radial deflection of the inner surface between the projections and the interference fit holding the surfaces at the lower temperature with the inner surface deflecting radial inward between the projections in response to stress produced by a difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion.

Dynamoelectric machines with stator positioning

A prioritizing method and arrangement for a hydraulic system including two independent hydraulic fluid supply units (4, 5) adapted to jointly and severally supply hydraulic fluid to at least two hydraulic components (2, 3). A cross-communication between the at lest two hydraulic components (2, 3) is controlled, with a flow of hydraulic fluid from one of the two hydraulic fluid supply units (5) being diverted to one of the at least two hydraulic components (3) to a substantial exclusion of the other of the at least two hydraulic components (2) in dependence upon an operating condition of the other of the two hydraulic fluid supplying units (5). A biasing force (F) acts upon the prioritizing arrangement so as to define an operating stage at which the respective hydraulic fluid supplying units (4, 5) exclusively supply hydraulic fluid to the respective ones of the at least two hydraulic units (2, 3).

Priority arrangement and method for a fluid handling system

Leakage of a coolant into the air gap (16) of a dynamoelectric machine so as to cause undesirable windage losses may be avoided through the use of a composite rotor sleeve (44) including a continuous film (46) of polyimide material on its radially inner surface and surrounding the machine rotor (22).

The problem of assembling and maintaining good electrical contact in a rotating rectifier assembly (40) is solved using deformable connectors (66). The rectifier assembly (40) includes three planar disks (48) which are linearly aligned and spaced along an axis (42). Six diode wafers (58) are arranged in two parallel planes which are parallel to the axis (42). The three diodes (58) in each plane are positioned on one of the oppositely directed planar faces (50, 52) of the disks (48). The three diodes (58) in each plane are connected by a copper connector bar (46) which forms an output. The assembly is surrounded by an insulating sleeve (62), and three deformable spring rings (66) are used to provide an interference fit.

Rotating rectifier assembly

In order to effect a phase shift in a dual generator having a pair of rotor-supporting shafts, where the phase shift accommodates optimum performance characteristics in a device requiring minimal space therewithin, the phase shifting device includes a first gear associated with an end of one rotor-supporting shaft and a second gear associated with an end of the other rotor-supporting shaft. The ends of the rotor-supporting shafts and disposed in spaced adjacent relation and the first rotor-supporting shaft is drivingly interconnected to the second rotor-supporting shaft through the first and second gears which are drivingly interconnected by a planet gear. With the planet gear mounted on a motor, the motor can be locked to maintain a selected phase relationship between first and second generators defining the dual generator to directly transmit rotational movement of one of the rotor-supporting shafts to the other of the rotor-supporting shafts and the motor can be activated to cause a shift in the relative position of the one rotor-supporting shaft relative to the other rotor-supporting shaft to effect a phase shift between the first and second generators on command.

Dual generator phase shifting device

A hydraulic differential having a pair of axial piston displacement units, with one being a fixed displacement unit, and the other being a variable displacement unit, and having flow-directing valve and port plates positioned therebetween. The hydraulic sealing of the components which rotate relative to each other is achieved by a floating mounting of a port plate which is urged by a block spring of the fixed displacement unit against an adjustable valve plate abutting a cylinder block of the variable displacement unit. The drive input for the hydraulic differential includes a rotatable mounting for the fixed angle wobbler of the fixed displacement unit which is drivingly connected through a connecting tubular member to the cylinder block of the variable displacement unit and with the cylinder block of the fixed displacement unit connected to a drive output shaft. Relatively small radial bearings rotatably mount the components within a case and are only required to react the spring load of the block spring acting against the floating port plate.

Hydraulic differential

A liquid lubricant sump level management system which includes a scavenge pump circuit communicating with the lubricant sump. A centrifugal deaerator is provided in the circuit. A liquid reservoir is in liquid communication with the deaerator. A sensor is operatively associated with the deaerator for sensing the liquid level condition in the deaerator, and providing for passage of liquid from the deaerator to the reservoir in response to a high liquid level condition and for passage of liquid from the reservoir to the deaerator in response to a low liquid level condition.

Liquid lubricant sump level management system

A fuel system bubble dissipation device wherein fuel is delivered through a fuel line from a fuel tank to an engine. The device includes an ejector having a casing with a fuel flow passage connected into the fuel line and a nozzle extending into said fuel flow passage. The nozzle is supplied with pressurized fuel to induce a higher pressure in the fuel flowing through the ejector. A bubble accumulation chamber is associated with the fuel line and the ejector to provide a reservoir for fuel for passage to the ejector and hold an air bubble separated from and above the fuel and a bubble evacuation passage connects the upper end of the bubble accumulation chamber to the fuel flow passage of the ejector whereby air and vapor can be drawn from the upper end of the bubble accumulation chamber and mixed with fuel flowing through the ejector. The bubble evacuation passage is of a size to control the rate at which air and vapor are drawn from the bubble accumulation chamber.

A closure for a container including a hinged lid movable between open and closed positions, operating means for moving the lid including a toggle linkage having bell crank means mounted for pivotal movement at a location beneath the open end of the container and a link pivotally connected to the upper side of the lid and one of the arms of the bell crank means whereby rotation of the bell crank means causes movement of the link and lid between open and closed positions, and the pivotal connections of the link and the pivotal mounting of the bell crank means lying in a straight line extending lengthwise of the container when the lid is closed whereby the lid is prevented from opening other than by rotation of the bell crank means.

A toroidal traction drive with a pair of spaced discs having opposed annular grooves and mounted in the casing for independent but interrelated coaxial rotation, a plurality of rollers positioned between the discs for frictional engagement with both discs, independent hydraulic control means for shifting each of the rollers with respect to the discs for varying the drive ratio, and a plurality of fixed cam means associated, one with each of the rollers, for bringing the roller axis of each roller to an intersecting relation with the drive axis to establish a steady state condition for the drive.
