A method and system to compensate for inaccuracy associated with processing values with finite precision includes a process for selecting a display value whereby an initial value is provided in a first numbering system. The initial value is then converted into an equivalent stored value in a second numbering system. Then a display value in the first numbering system is determined and selected such that the selected display value includes the least number of significant digits that convert from the first numbering system to the second numbering system exactly as the stored value. The selected display value in the first numbering system is then used for display and/or further processing when the stored value in the second numbering system is recalled.

A method and apparatus for displaying quantities of inventory items in multiple units of measure includes displaying an inventory item listing, including a desired quantity of the inventory item, on a user interface and/or display screen. The inventory item listing is then activated by a user through a user interface device within the context of the present transaction. Once the inventory item listing is activated, the quantity of the inventory item desired is displayed in a multiple units of measure display in multiple units of measure associated with the inventory item and within the context of the present transaction.

The user interface may display item, inventory, order, sales and/or vendor information regarding particular items, or all items, in a current inventory. The system may also aid the user in making purchase orders, such as by allowing the user to select items to order as well as the quantities to order and the vendors from which to order the selected items. The system may also allow the user to generate purchase order based on the selected items, amounts and vendors. The purchasing user interface system may allow a user to display, sort, filter, update and otherwise manipulate various inventory, sales, order and vendor information to aid in making meaningful inventory ordering decisions.

An order fulfillment tool may indicate fulfillability information for a plurality of open orders and receive user input specifying one or more orders for potential fulfillment. In response, the order fulfillment tool may indicate revised fulfillability information for orders not specified for potential fulfillment according to the effects on a current inventory if the specified orders were fulfilled. The order fulfillment tool may also recommend orders for potential fulfillment according to user-specified order fulfillment criteria and indicate revised fulfillability information for orders not recommended for potential fulfillment. Such an order fulfillment tool may also receive user input specifying fulfillment levels for individual items of orders and update fulfillability information for other orders according to the effect of the individual fulfillment levels.
