A method of casting has a mold assembled on a base plate. The finished mold is rotated by approximately 180&deg; around a horizontal rotational axis. A casting container with an upwardly positioned aperture end, removed from the mold, is filled with melt for one casting operation. The casting container is sealingly coupled by the aperture end to the ingate end of the mold. The mold, together with its contacting casting container, is rotated by approximately 180&deg; around a horizontal axis. Accordingly, the melt reaches the mold, and the casting container is removed from the coupled position away from the mold.

Method of and device for rotary casting

A cylinder head with a plurality of cylinder portions for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine has, in each cylinder portion, a central bore to receive an injection nozzle or spark plug. Also, gas changing channels extend from the deck face facing the cylinder block and emerge from side faces. The valve guide bores are directed towards the ends of the gas changing channels in the deck face. Recesses, for hydraulic cup tappets, are arranged co-axially relative to the valve guide bores. Bearing cradles are present for at least one camshaft. Further, the cylinder head, along the cylinder portions, has an extending cast longitudinal oil channel which supplies oil to the hydraulic cup tappets and, optionally, to the camshaft bearing regions. The longitudinal oil channel, with annular branching channels, enclose each of the bores for the injection nozzle or spark plug.

A cylinder head for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with a plurality of cylinder portions, each having gas changing channels, valve guides and bolt holes for one cylinder. The cylinder head is provided with a deck face designed to rest on a cylinder block. A valve drive pan is positioned opposite the deck face. Two longitudinally extending side faces and two end faces form the cylinder head. The cylinder head also has a cast longitudinal cooling water channel which extends along the plurality of cylinder portions. The longitudinal cooling water channel has cooling water entry and cooling water exit apertures designed to be connected to cooling water channels in the cylinder block. At least one cast transverse cooling water channel is provided for ventilating purposes and for discharging vapor bubbles. The transverse cooling water channel extends transversely to the longitudinal direction along the plurality of cylinder portions in an intermediate floor above the longitudinal cooling water channel. The cast transverse cooling water channel, at its one end close to a side face of the cylinder head, is connected to the longitudinal cooling water channel by a transfer aperture. At its other end opposed to the transfer aperture and close to the other side face, the transverse cooling water channel has a discharge member.
