Protective spectacles have a protective shield, fitted in the temple region, to protect the eyes from dust, etc., coming from the side. According to West German Industrial Standards, DIN, a predetermined degree of sealing must be maintained, according to the purpose of use, between it and the spectacle frame. Protective shields attached rigidly to the frame are cumbersome. The protective shield is firmly connected by its upper edge region to the associated spectacle earpiece. It is thus pivoted away together with the earpiece. Its forward edge seals with the spectacle frame with a predetermined degree of sealing. So that this is not impaired by adjustment of the inclination, the earpiece has a bending zone behind the protective shield. The inclination is adjusted by bending the earpiece. The invention may be used for protective spectacles in the industrial and private fields.

Protective spectacles

A frame of a pair of glasses has a pair of eye rims with front surface and nasal regions which are connected together by a bridge with a front surface and a nasal region. The frame has a shallow rabbet which extends from the nasal region of one eye rim, through the nasal region of the bridge, into the nasal region of the other eye rim, and has a predetermined depth. The shallow rabbet has a forward rabbet wall spaced from the front surface of the eye rims and the bridge, and a saggital rabbet wall, which is substantially longer than the forward rabbet wall. The saddle strap pad, made of plastic, is glued at its forward edge region into the shallow rabbet, and in the area of the forward end region is thicker than the depth of the rabbet. The saddle strap pad has a Shore D hardness in the range 10-30, preferably about 20.

Device on a pair of glasses

In a pair of eyeglasses, a stud-shaped pad is secured in a through-hole in a support plate on the side of an eyeglass wearer's nose. A stem extends from the main plate of the pad, which rests on the support plate, passing through the through-hole and is broadened at the rear side into the shape of a fastening member. The pad is made of extremely soft plastic. The pad can at any time be snapped in and out by the wearer.

Nosepads for eyeglasses

A pad is fastened angularly movable to pad levers of spectacle frames. The pad has a kidney-shaped pad body, which has a skin contact surface merging, with circumferential radii, in a rear surface which is spaced from the skin contact surface. The pad is cast around an anchoring plate, which has an elongated contour in the longitudinal extension of the pad body and is substantially thinner than the pad body. A finger projects perpendicularly from the anchoring plate and passes through the rear surface of the pad body. In its free end zone, the finger has a cross hole with extends transversely to the longitudinal extension of the pad body. The anchoring plate and the finger are of the same material. The pad body consists of glass-clear silicone rubber having a Shore-D hardness of 10-30 according to DIN 53 305. The anchoring plate consists of a transparent plastic material that is harder than the pad body and is a lattice-work of small rods which enclose open-work.

A spectacle frame earpiece has a flexible portion in the form of a rod, for adaption to the wearer's head, and a skin-soft sleeve composed of elastic material enclosing the flexible portion and extending to the end of the earpiece. A core in the form of a small plate is cast within the sleeve. The core is composed of substantially harder material than the sleeve. The core has a blind hole with a flattened cross-section for receiving and force-locking with a flattened cross-section at the end of the flexible portion of the rod.

A lens bow has a first area with a through hole oriented approximately in the direction of mechanical tension in the bow when it holds a lens set therein, and a second area with an inside threaded sleeve aligned with the through hole. The first and second areas have opposed faces. A screw has a head which rests outside the first area and which is tightened into the inside threaded sleeve to bring the first and second areas towards each other to hold the lens in the lens bow. The shortest distance between the opposed faces are larger in the untightened state and smaller when the screw is tightened to bring the bow into a holding condition about the circumference of a lens set therein.

Device for lens bows of eyeglasses

A metal hinge for children's eyeglasses has a first hinge half connected to the temporal region of the lens bow and a second hinge half connected to the temple of the frame. To reduce the harmful effects when children's glasses are knocked about, one of the hinge halves is covered with a homogeneous silicone body which has a Shore D-hardness of between 10 to 30, measured by DIN 53505. The silicone body at least partially extends over the other hinge half.

Hinge joint for childrens eyeglasses

The process provides a method of decorating spectacle frame parts by removing a jacket material from the core according to a decorative pattern, thus exposing a bright surface of the core. The jacket material is removed by a laser beam, the energy of which lies below the energy level required to weld the metal and above the energy level required to evaporate the jacket. A mirror apparatus in the path of the laser beam is controlled to the desired course of the decoration, to control the point of impingement of the laser beam on the jacket.

Process for decorating spectacle frames

A pad for eyeglass frames has a kidney-shaped outer edge contour, a soft, pliant front side for contacting the wearer and stable means on the back for receiving the frame pad lever. Thin flexible members radiate from the pad lever receiving means to the kidney-shaped contour edge. A foil-like membrane form-connects with the kidney-shaped outer edge contour. The membrane has a convex surface according to the shape of the front side of the pad.

Pad of high elasticity

The inner surface of the temples of eyeglasses or the bridge connecting the lens bows, at least in areas that come in contact with the wearer's skin, has a thin, glassy base coat. Over the base coat is a thin, air-hardened, sprayed silicone elastomer coating.

Coating for eyeglasses

An optical frame has a lens bow and two temples connected via a hinge joint on the lens bow, with the temple having a stop surface to contact the lens bow. An elastic cushion is arranged between the stop face surface of the temple and the lens bow. The cushion comprises a base plate and a portion extending from the end of the base plate at an angle of less than 90 degrees.

Frame for eyeglasses

Glass frames have a thin basic frame which mechanically absorbs the load on the glasses. A thin layer of soft material, such as silicon rubber or plastic foam is connected to the frame, at least on the rear eyebrow and nose rest and pad portions. The soft material may be separately formed and mechanically connected to the frames or formed on the frames.

Eye glasses

A temple unit has a rod of metal damask with a spiral-shaped structure butt-soldered to a rigid metal profile. The rod is inserted axially into a clear plastic shell having a softness of shore-D-hardness less than 20 according to DIN No. 53 505, the West German national standard. The plastic shell is silicone rubber or polyurethane foam with very low resilience so that the unit exhibits a straight rod form in the semifinished state.

Temples for eyeglasses

A pad of homogeneous material has a closed, substantially smooth surface. It is age-resistant, wear-resistant and gentle on the skin. It can be permanently connected to the material used for spectacle frames, made of translucent material and made with a lustrous surface. It has a Shore D hardness of 10 to 30 measured in accordance with DIN 53 505.

Pad device

Safety spectacles have an inner frame of hard elastic plastic material extending from one end piece, across the bridge to the other end piece. The base plates for the side piece hinges are embedded in the inner frame. A continuous wire is embedded in the inner frame. The inner frame is completely covered with a soft, elastic, polyurethane foam several millimeters thick which determines the shape of the spectacles.
