Disclosed are a method and apparatus for coating the interior surface of a cylinder wherein separate consumable electrodes are fed to an arc formed between a rotating non-consumable electrode and directing an atomizing gas through the arc formed to carry the molten metal of the consumable electrode to the cylinder wall to coat the wall and wherein a first consumable electrode in introduced in the cylinder bore with a rotating thermal spray head and a second consumable electrode is introduced into the cylinder from an end opposite the rotating non-consumable electrode and wherein either or both consumable electrodes may be utilized to form deposits on the cylinder of mixed or alternative composition.

Method and apparatus for thermal spraying cylindrical bores

Disclosed is a new carriage feed system which utilizes in the preferred embodiment a single double rod feed cylinder having its rod ends mounted to the top bridge and base of the tower respectively. The cylinder is hydraulically fed at the ends of the rod. A sheave carrier is mounted at each end of the barrel of the cylinder. The cylinder barrel forming the structure for support of the carriers which are also guided in the tower structure for linear movement along the tower. The cable reeving for the system is disposed about sheaves on the carrier and anchored at the tower midpoint. Suspended from the cable and guided on the tower is a drill head which performs the usual drilling functions. The system is fully balanced with regard to loads in the cables and about the cylinder to minimize offset stress. In addition, all draw down forces are taken in tension in the cylinder rods.

A fastener tensioning method and apparatus for obtaining a desired degree of tension in a fastener. The embodiment of this invention described utilizes the slope of the change in torque per change in rotation gradient to predict a rotation starting point independent of the rotation that occured in the torquing cycle up to the point of establishing a constant gradient. In the constant slope or gradient area of the torque rotation curve, rotation is considered linearly proportional to the tension in the fastener. A prescribed additional rotation is applied to the fastener utilizing the threads as a micrometer device for stretching the bolt to achieve the desired tension or fastener strain level. With appropriate system monitoring such as the total rotation, the maximum torque applied, the gradient slope, etc., the system can be adapted to inspect the fastener for applied tension as well as accurately control tension level.

Method and apparatus for fastener tensioning

A fastener tensioning method and apparatus for obtaining a desired degree of tension in a fastener. The apparatus includes a means for applying rotation to a fastener, a means for measuring the torque applied by the means for rotating the fastener, a means for determining a rate of change of torque applied to the fastener with respect to the rotation applied to the fastener, a means for detecting when the rate of change of torque with respect to rotation becomes a constant, a means for accomplishing a desired amount of rotation of the fastener beyond the rotation required to achieve the constant rate of change of torque with respect to rotation, and a means for shutting off the means for applying rotation to the fastener in response to the total desired rotation being achieved. The embodiment herein described improves the well-known 'turn of the nut' method for fastener tensioning by providing that method with a well determined starting point.

A wrenching apparatus for torquing a fastener to its yield point and automatically shutting off once the yield point is reached. The yield point is sensed by having the wrenching apparatus resiliently restrained and creating a pulse signal in response to an increment of restraint. Rotational output of the wrenching apparatus also creates a pulse for each increment of rotation chosen. The rotational pulses are counted and the restraint pulses are utilized to cancel the sum of the rotational pulses. The yield point is detected when the sum of the rotational pulses exceeds a predetermined number without having received a restraint pulse cancellation. The count system is activated only after a predetermined level of total restraint is achieved thereby assuring the fastener is seated and the fastener tension is increasing in its linear range.
