Bitumen granulate containing from 0.5 to 15% by weight, preferably from 6.1 to 15% by weight, of a powdering and separating agent such as, for example, synthetic silica or carbon black is produced by atomizing hot, liquid bitumen in a spray mixer and at the same time introducing the powdering and separating agent into the spray mixer by way of the stream of cold air.

Granular bitumen coated with precipitated silica

A free-flowing granular bitumen product containing from 0.5 to 6% by weight of a powdery coating and separating agent such as synthetic silica or carbon black is prepared by atomizing hot, liquid bitumen in a spray mixer while simultaneously introducing the powdery coating and separating agent by means of the cold air flow into the spray mixer.

Method of applying a layer of air-sprayed concrete onto a surface, wherein a pumpable and sprayable mixture of air-sprayable concrete is prepared from cement, aggregates, optional additives, and water. A given mass flow of the mixture of air-spray concrete is sprayed by means of a concrete feed pump through a concrete feed line to a spraying apparatus with a device for the introduction of propelling air under a feed pressure of several bars. The propelling air is charged with synthetic silica exhibiting a BET surface of at least 25 m.sup.2 /g. The synthetic silica is added with the propelling air into the mass flow of the mixture of air-spray concrete in such an amount that the applied air-spray concrete experiences a spontaneous temperature elevation of a few degrees Kelvin immediately after application. There is provided a process for improving mineral asphaltic coatings for streets and roadways comprising preparing a mixture to be used as the base mineral asphalt coating material, homogeneously mixing in 0.1 to 10 weight % of silica which is either (1) a precipitated silica, (2) a precipitated and spray dried silica or (3) a pyrogenically produced silica and further working this mixture into a mineral asphalt coating for streets and roadways.

Powdery bitumen concentrates are prepared containing 10 to 85 weight %, preferably 40 to 80 weight %, of synthetic silica. The concentrate is used in asphalt mixtures for building roads to give high stiffening value thereto.

Bituminous binders are disclosed which contain at least one silane and show excellent improvement of adhesion. The bituminous binder containing silane is manufactured by heating The bituminous binder to a temperature of 120.degree.-230.degree. C. and stirring in the silane. All known silanes can be used as the silane. The resulting compositions can be used for the production of street surfacings, industrial floors, floorings, building protective paints, roof coating masses, undercoatings for motor vehicles and rail vehicles, and cable covering compounds.

A mastic asphalt composition is disclosed which comprises, in addition to the mastic asphalt, 0.2 to 5 wt. % of a crystalline, powdered, synthetic zeolite or zeolite mixture. In addition, the mastic asphalt composition may further contain precipitated silica.

Mastic asphalt mixture for road, building and industrial construction, which contains 0.1 to 2% by weight of silica. For example, a precipitated silica, a precipitated and spray dried, or a pyrogenously produced silica may be used as a synthetic silicic acid. The content of synthetic silica produces an essentially higher degree of hardness in the finished mastic asphalt layer.
