A medical therapy system has logic and/or signal processing stages between sensors on the input side and therapy applicators on the output side. A signal parameter is determined from the input signals using the logic/processing stages, and/or an indicator signal is determined from the input signals using a logic/processing module consisting of several logic/processing stages. The indicator signal is a measure of the probability of a future event requiring therapy, or a measure of the success of the therapy.

Therapy system

A rate-adaptive cardiac pacemaker has a detection unit, an event-determining unit, a stimulation control unitand a stimulation unit, wherein the event-determining unitis connected to the detection unitand the stimulation control unit, and the stimulation unitis connected to the stimulation control unit. The detection unitdetects ECG signals of a heart, and the event-determining unit, on the basis of the ECG signals detected by the detection unitand signals emitted by the stimulation control unit, determines whether a detected event represents a spontaneous or a stimulated event (A, A; AES, V, V, VES). The stimulation control unitascertains a stimulation rate based upon a base rate and a physiological demand and varies the base rate based upon the event-determining unitin a first mode, when atrial events occur in such a way that in the case of a spontaneous atrial event a spontaneous interval is prolonged by a first change value and that in the case of a stimulated atrial event a base interval is prolonged by a second change value, whereby in both cases the base rate is lowered, and in a second mode, when ventricular events occur, the stimulation control unitvaries the base rate in such a way that in the case of a spontaneous ventricular event the base rate is raised and in the case of a stimulated ventricular event the base rate is lowered. The stimulation unit stimulates the heart in accordance with the signals received from the stimulation control unit
