An air intake assembly for an aircraft includes an auxiliary power unit intake that is defined by a skin of the aircraft. The auxiliary power unit intake is in fluid communication with an auxiliary power unit. The air intake assembly also includes a translatable scoop that defines a stowed condition and a fully deployed condition. The translatable scoop directs air exterior to the aircraft into the auxiliary power unit intake when in the fully deployed condition and does not direct the air exterior to the aircraft into the auxiliary power unit intake when in the stowed condition.

A method for controlling fuel flow to a gas turbine engine during starting includes monitoring acceleration of the gas turbine engine to determine actual acceleration value, and calculating a fuel flow rate for a setpoint acceleration using the actual acceleration value as a factor. The method further includes commanding the calculated fuel flow for the setpoint acceleration to the gas turbine engine.

A method of aligning flanges on two components to align and transfer torque from one component to the other uses a plurality of scallop regions on the periphery of a flange on one component; and a plurality of raised regions on the periphery of a flange on the other component, the raised regions being sized and shaped to engage the scallop regions on the flange when axially aligned to transfer torque there between.

A fuel nozzle arrangement includes an annular combustor having four quadrants. Fuel injectors are located in the four quadrants and each fuel injector has either a first or second type nozzle attached to it. The first and second type fuel nozzles are located in an array so that at least two of one nozzle type are located together to allow for non-uniform injector spacing with uniform downstream temperatures.

An example method of sealing an interface within a gas turbine engine includes holding a sealing ring arrangement relative to a turbine nozzle using a flange extending from a combustor liner. The method further includes urging the sealing ring arrangement toward a sealed relationship with the turbine nozzle.

A gas turbine engine sealing arrangement which includes a combustor liner establishing a combustion area and a turbine nozzle configured to receive a portion of a combustor liner. A sealing ring arrangement is configured to seal with the turbine nozzle to control fluid flow from the combustion area and reduce leakage.

An auxiliary power unit has a speed sensor for sensing a speed of operation of the auxiliary power unit. The speed sensor sends a signal to an electronic control box. The electronic control box is operable to control the auxiliary power unit. A branch line is for communicating the speed signal to a health monitoring system. The branch passes through an electronic component that will isolate the speed signal as it passes beyond the component and to the downstream use, such that corruption at a downstream use will not pass back upstream to corrupt the signals used in the electronic control box.

A method of determining lubrication oil consumption in a gas turbine engine that has an engine operating cycle interval comprising a starting phase, a running phase and a shutdown phase, comprises the steps of: measuring lubrication oil level upon initialization of the starting phase of each engine operating cycle interval; comparing the starting phase measured lubrication oil level during the starting phase with a starting phase baseline lubrication measurement; recording the starting phase lubrication oil level measurement; determining average engine lubrication oil consumption rate during the complete engine operating cycle interval by dividing the difference between the starting phase lubrication oil measurement and the baseline lubrication oil measurement; and repeating these steps for each subsequent engine operating cycle interval; wherein the starting phase baseline lubrication oil level measurement is initially a predetermined lubrication oil level and then the previous starting phase lubrication oil measurement for subsequent engine operating cycle intervals.
