A trisamide compound has the structure of Formula (I) in which R, R, and Rare independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups. A polymer composition comprises a trisamide compound of Formula (I) and a polyolefin polymer. The polymer compositions containing a trisamide compound of Formula (I) exhibit very low haze levels and minimal extraction of the trisamide compound.

Trisamide compounds and compositions comprising the same

A composition comprises one or more trimesic acid derivatives of Formula (I) in which R, R, and Rare independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups. A polymer composition comprises a composition as described above and a polyolefin polymer. The polymer compositions containing a trimesic acid derivative of Formula (I) exhibit very low haze levels and minimal extraction of the trimesic acid derivative.

A gradient nanofiber non-woven contains a plurality of nanofibers where at least 70% of the nanofibers are bonded to other nanofibers. The nanofibers each have a surface and a center and contain a bulk polymer and a third component. The majority by weight at the surface of the nanofiber is the third component and the majority by weight at the center of the nanofiber is the bulk polymer and there is a concentration gradient from most concentrated to least from the surface of the nanofiber to the center of the nanofiber. The process for forming a gradient nanofiber non-woven is also disclosed.

Disclosed are porous, low density nanoclay composites that exhibit highly homogeneous microcellular morphology and methods for forming the nanocomposites. The nanocomposites include a three-dimensional matrix having a non-lamellar, generally isotropic cellular structure with little or no macroscopic pores. The nanocomposites also include a gel that may be a noncovalently cross-linked, thermoreversible gel. The nanocomposites may include a binder and/or fibrous reinforcement materials. The nanocomposites may be formed according to a freeze-drying process in which ice crystal growth is controlled to prevent formation of macroscopic pores in the composite materials.

Porous, low density nanoclay composite

A process for forming a nanofiber non-woven includes mixing a first and second thermoplastic polymer and a plurality of particles, then subjecting the mixture to elongational forces when the first and second polymers are in a softened condition forming nanofibers of the first polymer. Next, the mixture is brought to a condition where the temperature is below the softening temperature of the first polymer forming a first intermediate. The first intermediate is consolidated forming the second intermediate where at least 70% of the nanofibers are fused to other nanofibers. Next, at least a portion of the second polymer is removed and at least 50% of the particles are positioned adjacent a surface of the nanofibers.

Process of forming a nanofiber non-woven containing particles

An acetal-based composition useful as a nucleating, gelling, thickening or clarifying agent is disclosed. The composition may be synthesized or provided in many different forms, including multicarbon diacetals formed from carbohydrates. Once synthesized, the compound may be employed as an additive in a plastic composition, such as (for example) a polypropylene copolymer. One structure of such an acetal-based composition is provided by the formula:

An acetal-based composition useful as a nucleating, gelling, thickening or clarifying agent is disclosed. The composition may be synthesized or provided in many different forms, including multicarbon diacetals formed from carbohydrates. Once synthesized, the compound may be employed as an additive in a plastic composition, such as (for example) a polypropylene copolymer. Co-additives may also be employed. Several aryl structures may reside upon the hydrocarbon chain backbone. One structure of such an acetal-based composition which happens to have two aryl-containing groups is shown: wherein:

Method of nucleating a polyolefin composition with acetal-based compounds

A method for making polymeric reflectors and parabolic reflectors in particular. The reflector is made by forming a series of layers ( and ) that are progressively thinner with the final polymeric layer ( ) being about one millimeter in thickness. The reflector is then coated with a reflective layer ( ) by vapor deposition. To make a parabolic reflector, the layers are spun cast at a constant, preselected rate throughout the process, including during the curing of each layer. Layer formation is made in a controlled, particulate-free environment and additives can be used to increase stiffness, decrease weight, and reduce stresses during curing.

Compositions having optically smooth surfaces

A process for the preparation of aromatic aldehydes containing fluorine, and more particularly, to a formylation process for fluorinated aromatic derivatives through the reaction of fluorinated benzenes with carbon monoxide and aluminum chloride at a relatively low pressure, a low temperature, and in the presence of at most a catalytic amount of an acid (such as aqueous hydrochloric acid) is herein disclosed. The resultant fluorinated benzaldehydes are useful as precursors to the formation of a number of different compounds, such as dyestuffs, flavorings, fragrances, herbicidal compounds, nucleating agents, polymer additives, and the like. The inventive method provides a very cost effective and safe procedure for producing such fluorinated benzaldehydes in very high yields.

Method of producing fluorinated and chlorinated benzaldehydes and compositions thereof

A process for the preparation of aromatic aldehydes containing fluorine, and more particularly, to a formylation process for fluorinated aromatic derivatives through the reaction of fluorinated benzenes with carbon monoxide and aluminum chloride at a relatively low pressure, a low temperature, and in the presence of at most a catalytic amount of an acid (such as aqueous hydrochloric acid) is herein disclosed.
