A reflector lamp having a lens of vitreous material fused to a reflector body of vitreous material. An inner reflector surface of the reflector body includes a reflective coating having a first coating portion extending from the rim of the reflector body and a second coating portion extending from a location spaced from the rim towards a basal end of the reflector body. The second coating portion is a layer of heat-treated silver having a uniform, whitish non-metallic appearance and being diffusely reflective. The first coating portion is a layer of material other than silver, such as aluminum, having a higher resistance to damage by high heat in the rim area during fusing of the lens to the reflector body.

An electric lamp includes a hybrid skirted lamp base including a plastic skirt portion and a metallic skirt portion having one end portion molded in said plastic skirt portion and a second end portion secured to the lamp envelope. The metallic skirt portion improves structural integrity and provides some thermal isolation from the lamp envelope allowing the use of a lower temperature plastic for the plastic skirt portion. The plastic skirt portion includes a weldless and solderless lamp base. A lamp cap contact includes a rigid shank received in a clamping bore of the plastic skirt portion. The diameters of the bore and shank and the elasticity of the bore wall are selected so that a conductive lead of the lamp is securely clamped between the shank and the bore wall when the shank is fully received in the bore. In a favorable embodiment, the lead has a free end extending in the direction of insertion of the shank into the bore, which avoids the lead wire from being pushed out of the bore.

Higher efficacies are achieved with the silver layer spaced from the rim than with silver covering the entire reflector surface.

High efficiency sealed beam reflector lamp

A rapid start fluorescent lamp having an improved hot restarting time. The lamp includes the standard envelope and end cap through which electrical connection is made by conductive feedthroughs which extend through the lamp stem to the interior of the lamp. One of the feedthroughs is connected to the cathode, and the other is connected to the leads of a fuse element which is contained within an envelope to isolate the fusible element from the lamp environment. A thermally activated bimetallic element is disposed across the leads of the fuse. The other lead of the fusible element is connected to the other end of the cathode. When the bimetal element is cold, it will bridge the connection between the other feedthrough to the other end of the cathode to permit rapid starting. When the bimetal heats up, the connection of both ends of the cathode to the heating current is broken. The location of the bimetallic element within the lamp envelope but not in the fuse container permits it to open and close more rapidly. Additionally the fuse assembly is utilized as part of the supporting structure for the filament assembly.
