A system for emitting light (such as a luminaire) includes a first light emitting diode (LED) string and a first LED driver that is electrically connected in parallel to the first LED string. The system also may include a second (or more) LED string(s), each associated with an additional LED driver. One-way conductors and normally-open switches are used so that if one LED driver fails, the remaining LED driver(s) will deliver power to the failed driver's LED string so that the light remains operational, but with a reduced brightness.

An optical structure for controlling distribution of light generated by a light source is described. The optical structure includes a primary optics disposed relative to the light source and configured to reflect light generated by the light source towards a target region. The optical structure also includes a secondary optics disposed and aligned relative to the primary optics. The secondary optics is configured to at least partially block light generated by the light source from illuminating a region outside the target region.

A lighting device includes an optical assembly and an obstruction sensor configured to receive radiation reflected by the optical assembly. The lighting device also includes a processor that is configured to receive information corresponding to the radiation reflected by the optical assembly from the obstruction sensor, and compare the received information to a plurality of known reflection patterns associated with one or more properties of the optical assembly to determine a property of the optical assembly.

Systems and methods for obstruction detection on a luminaire optics

This document describes a mounting structure that is used to pivotally mount and orient a lighting device with respect to a support structure. The light fixture includes an interface plate having at least one tilt aperture. Each tilt aperture corresponds to a tilt angle of the light fixture. The mounting structure includes a mounting slot for engaging with a mounting element of the interface plate, along with a semi-circular slot that overlaps the at least one tilt aperture when the light fixture is pivotally mounted on the mounting structure. The mounting structure also includes a fastening device that, when routed through the semi-circular slot for insertion into the tilt aperture, orients the light fixture pivotally mounted on the mounting structure at a tilt angle. The fastening device is lockably engaged within the semi-circular slot at a position corresponding to the tilt angle.

A heatsink assembly for a luminaire may include a shell portion and one or more lighting module holders. The shell portion may include a frame and one or more cross members that may be attached to the inner surface of the frame and that may form one or more openings proximate to the rear end of the frame. The frame may be made of a material that has a lower thermal conductivity than that of the material of the one or more lighting module holders. The one or more lighting module holders may be configured to be held in the one or more openings. The one or more lighting module holders may contain a landing pad and a plurality of inner fins that are connected to the lower surface and positioned to extend from the corresponding opening. The landing pad may have an upper surface that is configured to receive a lighting module and a lower surface that is sized to correspond to and be larger than a corresponding one of the openings. In some embodiments, the lighting module holder forms a heat sink.

A lighting module includes a substrate, an obstruction sensor and a light source mounted on the substrate, and an optical assembly located over the light source. The obstruction sensor includes a transceiver to transmit radiation towards the optical assembly and receive radiation reflected by the optical assembly. The reflected radiation is indicative of one or more conditions of the optical assembly. The obstruction sensor may be an infrared (IR) sensor. The lighting module may also include a processor having programming instructions to receive information corresponding to the radiation reflected by the optical assembly from the obstruction detection sensor, analyze the received information to determine the presence of at least a threshold level of an obstruction or a deformity on the optical assembly, and in response to determining the presence of at least the threshold level of the obstruction or the deformity on the optical assembly, perform a restorative action.

A lighting module is disclosed. The lighting module includes a substrate for holding a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs), optical component, and a rigid carrier configured to interface with the substrate and seal the optical component to the substrate. The optical component includes a plurality of optical elements, each positioned to be located over one of the plurality of LEDs and a peripheral portion. The peripheral portion is configured to wrap around a side wall of the rigid carrier.

A method for performing self-diagnosis in a light fixture. The method includes receiving data corresponding to a plurality of environmental conditions from one or more sensors. The one or more sensors are positioned in a sensor cavity of a light fixture wherein a plurality of conduits provide a sealed path between a plurality of LED modules of the light fixture and the sensor cavity such that the LED modules, the conduits and the sensor cavity exhibit a plurality of environmental conditions. The method also includes analyzing the data to determine if at least one of the plurality of environmental conditions has undergone one or more of the following changes: a change so that a value of the at least one environmental condition exceeds a threshold level, a threshold change compared to a corresponding constant level, or a rate of change that is greater than a threshold value.

LED illumination device with single pressure cavity

A light emitting diode (LED) module for a light fixture includes a substrate with an upper surface and a lower surface. Various pressure multiplying pads are integrally connected to the lower surface, and each pressure multiplying pad extends away from the lower surface. LEDs are attached to the upper surface, along with a set of conductive lines so that each conductive line electrically connects a corresponding LED to a power inputs. Each of the pressure multiplying pads may be positioned opposite a corresponding LED. A flexible lens cover may cover the upper surface and the LEDs, while leaving the lower surface and pressure multiplying pads exposed so that the pads can contact a heat sink of the light fixture.
