A self-aligning bracket assembly can be used for many purposes, including for attaching a shock mount to a data storage device. The bracket assembly can include a plate having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. A surface of the plate on the first side can be adjacent a data storage device for mounting thereon. The plate may further include a raised and/or sunken portion forming an open space or gap between the surface and the portion and thereby forming an open space between the plate and the data storage device. An opening can extend through the plate at the raised or sunken portion. The opening can have a chamfer formed in the plate to receive a screw for mounting the bracket assembly. When used for a shock mount, the bracket may further include a shock mount extending from the plate.

A universal test connector is disclosed for connecting a data storage device including a plug connector, a USB interface connector, and a plurality of serial I/O (SIO) contacts to a data storage device tester. The universal test connector includes a receptacle connector configured to connect to the plug connector, a cross-member configured to conform around the USB interface connector, and a plurality of SIO contacts configured to connect to the plurality of SIO contacts on the data storage device.

A data storage device assembly comprises a data storage device, a shock mount configured to couple to the data storage device, and an enclosure comprising first and second portions. The first enclosure portion may comprise a first pocket defining a first nesting surface, and a first plurality of ribs configured to contact a first portion of the shock mount over an aggregate first surface area that is less than a surface area of the first nesting surface. The second enclosure portion may be configured to mate with the first enclosure portion to enclose the data storage device therebetween. The second enclosure portion may comprise a second pocket defining a second nesting surface and a second plurality of ribs configured to contact a second portion of the shock mount over an aggregate second surface area that is less than a surface area of the second nesting surface.

One embodiment relates to an improved enclosure and shock mount for a disk drive. The enclosure and shock mount provide shock and vibration isolation to protect the components of the disk drive. In one embodiment, shock mounts are provided on the disk drive assembly. An enclosure comprises an upper component and a lower component. Retaining features are provided to join the enclosure together and captivate the shock mounts with a desired pre-load.

A novel information storage device is disclosed and claimed. The information storage device includes a disk drive having a disk drive top surface, a disk drive bottom surface, a disk drive periphery, and a disk drive printed circuit board. The disk drive defines a Z direction that is normal to the disk drive top surface. The disk drive defines a disk drive height measured in the Z direction from the disk drive bottom surface to the disk drive top surface. The information storage device includes a first conductive shield over the disk drive. The first conductive shield includes a peripheral capacitive flange that at least partially overlaps the disk drive periphery. The peripheral capacitive flange is separated from the disk drive periphery in a direction normal to the Z direction by a clearance. The overlap in the Z-direction is at least 5 times the clearance.

An electronic display assembly is disclosed comprising a display mount including a window and a display coupled to the display mount. The electronic display assembly further comprises an adhesive strip comprising a first side covering at least part of the window of the display mount. A flex circuit is coupled to the display, wherein the flex circuit comprises a component surface having at least one component mounted thereon. The flex circuit is wrapped around the display mount and the component surface is adhered to the first side of the adhesive strip through the window of the display mount.

A novel information storage device has a disk drive, a disk drive support structure adapted to maintain the disk drive base in a substantially vertical position, and an electrically conductive shield attached to the disk drive base. The electrically conductive shield is disposed adjacent and overlying the disk drive printed circuit board. The electrically conductive shield includes a fan mounting surface having a fan duct opening disposed adjacent an upper end of the electrically conductive shield, and a lower air inlet opening disposed adjacent a lower end of the electrically conductive shield. The information storage device includes no fan and no fan is attached to the fan mounting surface. The electrically conductive shield forms a continuous internal air passageway from the lower air inlet opening to the fan duct opening.

An injection molding process and apparatus are described in which a workpiece is formed using an injection molding tool. The mold composed of a cavity formed by a core and a plurality of cavity sides, wherein the workpiece has a plurality of undercut features formed in notches within the core. The injection molding method includes flexing sections of the workpiece apart from each other to at least partially separate the workpiece from the core.

A disk drive includes a light source configured to emit light indicative of a disk drive status. A disk drive status light guide system for a disk drive also includes a first light pipe configured and dimensioned to mechanically couple to the disk drive and configured to directly receive and guide light emitted by the light source, and a second light pipe separate from the first light pipe, the second light pipe configured to receive and guide light from the first light pipe to a status lens visible to a user.

A novel information storage device is disclosed and claimed. The information storage device includes a disk drive, a disk drive printed circuit board, and a first conductive shield over the disk drive printed circuit board and electrically coupled to the disk drive. The information storage device also includes a bridge controller printed circuit board and a second conductive shield over and electrically coupled to the bridge controller printed circuit board. The first and second conductive shields are in direct contact with each other. A disk drive interface connector electrically couples the bridge controller printed circuit board with the disk drive printed circuit board. A third conductive shield is attached to the disk drive interface connector and is in direct contact with both the first and second conductive shields.

An information storage device includes a disk drive and a disk drive printed circuit board (PCB) with a disk drive interface connector. A bridge controller PCB is connected to the disk drive interface connector, and includes a host interface connector. An electrically conductive nest of monolithic construction receives the disk drive housing and the bridge controller PCB. The electrically conductive nest includes an enclosure portion enclosing the bridge controller PCB with a conductive grounding tab in contact with the host interface connector. The enclosure portion includes a first plurality of conductive fingers each in contact with the disk drive housing. The electrically conductive nest also includes an extended shield portion adjacent the second side of the disk drive base and overlying the disk drive controller PCB. The extended shield portion includes a second plurality of conductive fingers each in contact with the disk drive housing.

A method of fabricating disk drives. The method includes providing disk drives based upon a first disk drive configuration. The first disk drive configuration includes an operable disk drive including a disk drive base with an exterior bottom side, and a first weight plate attached to the exterior bottom side of the disk drive base. The method further includes providing disk drives based upon a second disk drive configuration. The second disk drive configuration includes the operable disk drive, and a second weight plate attached to the exterior bottom side of the disk drive base. The second weight plate has a mass different than a mass of the first weight plate. In another embodiment, the second disk drive configuration includes the disk drive base being exposed without any weight plated attached. Another aspect of the invention includes a disk drive with a weight plate.

An information storage device includes a housing having a cavity, and a sliding door partially covering the cavity. The housing has a first groove and a second groove on opposite sides of the cavity. The sliding door includes first and second edges adjacent the first and second grooves, respectively. The sliding door also includes first and second tabs protruding from the first and second edges into the first and second grooves, respectively. The first and second tabs define first and second tab lengths measured parallel to the first and second edges, respectively. There are first and second through-slots in the sliding door adjacent the first and second tabs, respectively. The first and second through-slots define first and second through-slot lengths measured parallel to the first and second edges, respectively. The first and second through-slot lengths are greater than the first and second tab lengths, respectively.

A novel information storage device is disclosed and claimed. The information storage device includes a disk drive and a sheet metal support attached to the disk drive. The sheet metal support includes a plurality of sheet metal projections, each including a major surface. Each of at least two of the plurality of sheet metal projections includes at least one tab bent out of a plane that includes the major surface of that sheet metal projection. The information storage device also includes a plurality of elastomeric inserts. Each of the plurality of elastomeric inserts includes a cavity sized to receive one of the plurality of sheet metal projections. The information storage device also includes a housing. The housing includes a plurality of receptacles, each sized to receive one of the plurality of elastomeric inserts.
