A hearing aid worn in the ear and ear canal and provided with a replaceable container of desiccant material. The hearing aid comprises a body containing an electronic sound amplification circuit and an appropriate replaceable power source such as a battery. The body is generally molded of a plastic material and is custom fit to the ear and ear canal in which it is to be worn. The body is provided with at least one port connecting the body interior with the ear canal. The desiccant container is replaceably mounted within the body to maintain the ear canal substantially moisture free to reduce or eliminate moisture induced irritation of the ear canal. The desiccant container is preferably associated with the battery so that both are replaced simultaneously and preferably as a single unit in a single operation.

Hearing aid with replaceable drying agent

A device for selectively keeping the flash button of a telephone handset depressed. The device comprises a detachable telephone handset engaging member, which when secured to the handset depresses the flash button, thereby keeping the telephone off line. When the handset engaging member is detached from the handset, the flash button is released and phone calls may be made. The device is easy to operate and makes it unnecessary to use the hook switch on the telephone cradle.

There is disclosed a control system for a hydraulic down-hole earth drilling motor of the helical gear pair type to control the pressure drop of the fluid through the motor so that it does not become excessive. A housing is provided defining a chamber, one end of the housing being secured to the outer member housing of the motor. Valve means and pressure controlling means are positioned in the chamber. Linkage means positioned within the chamber joins the valve means pressure controlling means and the upper end of the inner member of the motor. In operation the inner member of the motor may be caused to operate the valve means to control the fluid flow and therefore the pressure drop through the motor in order to protect the motor from overload. A further embodiment of the invention corrects an additional problem in down-hole motors resulting from the back flow when the drilling is stopped for any reason.

Progressing cavity motor governing system

A sealed bearing system for rotatably journaling a shaft relative to a surrounding housing by means of bearing assemblies each comprising a pocket secured to the housing and a bearing support secured to the shaft, the bearing support extending into the pocket with bearings interposed between the bearing support and the walls of the pocket; a lubricant is sealed in the pocket by sealing rings extending between the bearing support and the walls of the pocket; the bearing assemblies are provided in opposing pairs with flow restrictor means lying between the bearing assemblies, thereby forming a system which permits fluid flow between the shaft and the housing but which seals the bearings from infiltration of the fluid irrespective of pressure variation in the flowing fluid.

Sealed bearing system for hydraulically operated devices

There is disclosed a transmission between an orbiting element and an element rotating on its own centers. It is disclosed particularly in connection with a motor operating on the Moineau principle and the invention replaces the conventional connecting rod with double universal joints and it also can modify the ball and tube arrangement disclosed in earlier patents.

Motor/pump transmission construction for a Moineau type apparatus

A hydraulic motor is disclosed using the helical gear elements as taught by Moineau in his early patents, as for example, U.S. Pat. No. 1,892,217 of Dec. 27, 1932. In the present invention the internal element of the Moineau pair is held against gyration but is permitted to rotate freely. The outer member of the Moineau gear pair is caused to turn without gyration when fluid is pumped through the motor. Compared with conventional Moineau gear pair motors, the volume of liquid to be pumped through the motor is reduced by 50% and therefore the fluid may be pumped at a higher pressure than is available with current Moineau gear pair motors. If the pressure is doubled, then the torque put out by the motor is doubled. While the device is useful in various applications, it is of particular value in connection with well drilling down-hole motors.

Hydraulic motor with variable speed

There is disclosed a down-hole drilling motor having a connection to the drill bit, such that, when desirable or necessary, fluid may be circulated in the bore by means of the motor to clean out undue accumulation of cuttings, or for other reasons, while at the same time the bit is stopped, thereby saving wear on the bit and bit drive parts. When the motor is disconnected from the drill shaft, the drill shaft may be locked to the drill pipe so that the bit may be rotated by turning the drill pipe from the top of the bore with the conventional rotary table to permit the operator to drill his way out if the drill is stuck or to roll the bit out from under a ledge under which it might be caught during drilling.

Down-hole earth drilling motor capable of free circulation

There is disclosed a fluid motor composed of a helical gear pair wherein an inner member has one or more external helical threads and a cooperating outer member has one or more internal helical threads, the number of helical threads on the inner and outer members differing by one. The outer member is secured to one of the sections of a water swivel which is conventional except that it has an axial intake, radial tube and inner member supporting guide, and means are associated with an end of the inner member and with the outer section of the water swivel to prevent relative rotation between said inner and outer members while permitting gyration with oscillation of the inner member in relation to the outer member. Each end of the device has a tapered thread. The motor may be used either end up. A drill pipe or suitable sub is threaded into one end of the device and a tool is threaded into the other end of the device, directly or with a sub between. In one embodiment the outer member of the gear pair is held stationary by the drill pipe which is threaded into it or with a sub between, and the tool which is threaded into the other end is rotated by the rotation of the inner member and the rotating part of the water swivel. In another embodiment, the drill pipe is threaded into the stationary part of the water swivel or with a sub between and thus the inner element of the gear pair is held stationary and the outer element is caused to rotate with the rotating portion of the water swivel, and thus the tool is driven by the outer element of the gear pair. The tool is useful in earth boring as in well drilling, coring, mining, foundation settings, and substrata exploration. Two or more devices according to the invention may be coupled together with various advantages.

Versatile fluid motor and pump

There is disclosed a fluid motor composed of a helical gear pair wherein an inner chamber has an external helical thread and a cooperating outer member has one more internal helical thread than the number of external helical threads on the inner member. The outer member is secured to one of the sections of a water swivel which is conventional except that it has an axial intake, radial tube and inner member supporting guide, and means are associated with an end of the inner member and with the other section of the water swivel to prevent relative rotation between said inner and outer members while permitting gyration of the inner member in relation to the outer member. Each end of the device has a tapered female thread. The motor may be used either end up. A drill pipe or suitable sub is threaded into one end of the device and a tool is threaded into the other end of the device, directly or with the sub between. In one embodiment the outer member of the gear pair is held stationary by the drill pipe which is threaded into it or with a sub between, and the tool which is threaded into the other end is rotated by the rotation of the inner member and the rotating part of the water swivel. In another embodiment, the drill pipe is threaded into the stationary part of the water swivel or with a sub between and thus the inner element of the gear pair is held stationary and the outer element is caused to rotate with the rotating portion of the water swivel, and thus the tool is driven by the outer element of the gear pair. The tool is useful in earth boring as in well drilling, coring, mining, foundation settings, and substrata exploration.

A method of using solvent refined coal as a fuel for an internal combustion engine is disclosed wherein the fuel is provided in finely divided form, the finely divided fuel being aspirated into the cylinder on a suction stroke and being heated by compression to a point at which the finely divided solid material liquefies into a fine spray which liquid spray is then ignited by a glow plug at a temperature of at least 1000.degree. F.

Method of operating an internal combustion engine with solvent refined

A hydraulic motor or pump constituted by an inner and outer helical gear pair. The outer member of the pair is secured to one of the sections of at least one water swivel, and the inner member is connected to the other section by cooperating elements associated with at least one end of the inner member and the other section, which prevent relative rotation while permitting relative gyration of the inner member with respect to said outer member. The stationary section of the swivel serves as a mounting for the device. One or more gears, sprockets, pulleys or propellers may be secured to the rotating member of the pair, if it is the outer member which rotates, or to the rotating section of the swivel. By driving the rotating member, fluid may be pumped through the device, the direction of flow depending on the direction of rotation. By pumping fluid, by a separate pump, through the gear pair, the rotating member is caused to rotate in one direction or the other, depending on the direction of flow through the gear pair. With at least one propeller mounted on at least one rotating swivel section, or on the outer member if it is a rotating member, and driven by a separate pump, the device has utility for propulsion of a boat, barge, or semi-submersible well drilling platform, or for directional thrusting thereof, or with gears, sprockets or pulleys mounted on at least one rotating swivel section, it may simultaneously be used for driving auxiliary equipment. When the rotating member is driven by the use of gears, sprockets or pulleys, it may serve as a bilge pump.

Hydraulic motor or pump

A pump composed of a gear pair made up of an inner member having at least one external helical thread, and an outer member having internal helical threads, there being one more internal helical thread in the outer member than the number of threads on the inner member. The inner member is free to gyrate but prevented from rotation, and the outer member rotates on its true axis. The outer member is fixed in a tubular casing having at least one aperture for fluid being pumped, and this member extends beyond the gear pair and constitutes a drive shaft for the pump. The tubular casing is disposed in a housing and is arranged for rotation in the housing on suitable bearings and suitable seals. The housing has a port at each end of said gear pair, so that the direction of pumping may be reversed by reversing the direction of rotation of said drive shaft.
