An electric motor may comprise a rotor and a stator. One or more first cables connected to a first power converter circuit of are wrapped adjacent to at least some stator teeth of a stator core to form at least a first portion of one or more coil windings. One or more second cables connected to a second power converter circuit of the plurality of power converter circuit also may be wrapped adjacent to at least some of the stator teeth to form at least a second portion of the one or more coil windings.

Multi-inverter system for electric machine

Magnetically-assisted mechanical gear systems and other power transmission systems, and related methods of operation and assembly, are disclosed herein. In an example embodiment, such a system includes a driving gear, a driven gear, and a first magnetomotive force (MMF) source that generates a magnetic flux. A first portion of the flux is communicated between at least one driving gear teeth and at least one driven gear teeth so that one or more magnetic forces are exerted between the gears. When the first rotational movement of the driving gear alternates from being in the first rotational direction to being in a third rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction, then the driven gear is driven by the one or more magnetic forces so that the second rotational movement also alternates, and a first amount of backlash movement between the driving and driven gears is avoided or reduced.

Magnetically-assisted mechanical gear system and method

This invention pertains to reliable, lightweight and efficient hybrid electric powertrain and components thereof to power hybrid electric aircraft from one or more sources of electrical energy. In particular, a novel architecture is proposed for power panels that receive, condition and distribute high levels of electrical power to and from the propulsion electric motors and the one or several sources of electrical energy. Systems and methods for architecting the power panels using efficient, reusable and modular power electronics building blocks (PEBBs) is described, along with additional systems and methods for the optimal control of the power panels and components thereof. In addition, novel systems and methods are described for the efficient and lightweight thermal management for hybrid electric powertrain components, ranging from distribution manifolds for the powertrain or power panels, to micro fluid channels for cooling electronics with extreme heat flux. Additional disclosures are made pertaining to fail-safe architectures for plug-in series hybrid-to-electric powertrain, to the efficient in-ground charging of the stored electric energy sources, to the efficient control of permanent magnet generators, and to novel inverter technologies for the hybrid electric powertrain.

Systems and methods for implementing lightweight and reliable hybrid or electric powertrains for aircraft

Electric propulsion systems, and methods of operating and implementing same, are disclosed herein. In one example embodiment, an electric propulsion system includes an electric motor, a motor drive coupled to the electric motor, and a thermal management subsystem. The electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor, and the motor drive includes each of an inverter including a plurality of wide bandgap semiconductor field effect transistors (FETs), and a controller coupled at least indirectly to the FETs and configured to control the FETs by way of pulse width modulation (PWM) control. Additionally, at least a first portion of the electric motor and at least a second portion of the motor drive are cooled by the thermal management subsystem.

The present disclosure to electromagnetically-controlled magnetic cycloidal gear assemblies and methods of operating same. In one example embodiment, such an assembly includes a stator that is concentric with respect to a primary axis of the assembly, and that includes a plurality of first magnetic devices, where each of those devices includes a respective electromagnet. Also, the assembly includes an input shaft that includes an offset cam, a cycloid mounted at least indirectly upon the offset cam, and an output hub. The cycloid is eccentric with respect to the primary axis and includes a plurality of second magnetic devices, and the output hub is at least indirectly rotationally coupled to the cycloid. The assembly also includes a controller coupled to each of the electromagnets by way of one or more linkages, and configured to govern at least one electric current that is passed through at least one of the electromagnets.

A start inverter for an electric engine start scheme includes an inverter phase leg with solid-state switches and a pulse width modulator operatively connected to the solid-state switches of the inverter phase leg. The pulse width modulator provides command signals to the solid-state switches of the inverter phase leg to invert direct current into alternating current with less ripple than a start inverter with two solid-state switches per phase leg.

A three phase step-up autotransformer construction is discussed herein. The passive 12-pulse AC-DC converter offers simplicity, high reliability and low cost solution to AC-DC power conversion. The autotransformer is a component of the passive 12-pulse AC-DC converter. The autotransformer converts three-phase AC power into six-phase AC power. With appropriate vector design, the autotransformer may be configured to draw a near sinusoidal 12-pulse current waveform from the three-phase voltage source. An electronics system module includes a primary electrical circuit including input connectors and output connectors and a filter circuit connected between the primary electrical circuit and ground.
