The present invention relates to a method for feedback of states of an electric component to an engine control device of an internal combustion engine using a control unit for the electric component including a detection device configured to detect faults. The method includes configuring the control unit, connecting the control unit to the engine control device via a signal line, receiving a PWM signal generated in the engine control device, tying the signal line to ground for a feedback of data of the electric component to the engine control device; and identifying a fault based on a duration of the connection to ground.

A wet-running pump comprises a rotor which is connected to a pump wheel and which is arranged in a wet area adapted to have a guided fluid passed therethrough. The wet area is separated from a dry area wherein a stator which cooperates with the rotor, is arranged. The wet area is separated from the dry area by a conductor plate, wherein the electric lines thereof form the stator such that the conductor plate simultaneously forms a separating can, thus simplifying the construction and mounting of the wet-running pump.

An electrically commutated motor comprises a plurality of stator phases and a rotor. Further, sensors for detecting the control deviation of the rotor in relation to the stator phases are provided. A phase control unit controls the stator phase rotary field depending on the detected control deviation. The phase control unit comprises a single-phase controller for a single-phase mode of operation, and a multiple-phase controller for a multiple-phase mode of operation. Further, a control deviation evaluation element is provided which evaluates the magnitude of the control deviation, and selects, depending on the evaluation result, the single-phase mode of operation or the multiple-phase mode of operation.

Method for low-speed operation of brushless DC motors

Disclosed is a method of starting an electronically commutated DC motor including a stator having at least one winding and a rotor. The winding is excited with at least one initial start pulse having a voltage and a repetition frequency which are sufficient to ensure rotation of the rotor under a maximum load in normal operation. Back EMF generated in the winding by the rotation of the rotor is detected. If the back EMF is detected, the rotation of the motor is controlled based on the detected back EMF. If the back EMF is not detected, the voltage of the at least one initial start pulse is increased until any of (i) the back EMF is detected, (ii) a current generated in the winding by said at least one initial start pulse reaches a maximum acceptable current level, and (iii) the voltage of said at least one initial start pulse reaches a maximum acceptable voltage level. In the latest instance, supply of the at least one initial start pulse to the winding is discontinued.

A cooling system of a motor-vehicle internal-combustion engine has a pump driven by a current-consuming electrical motor. The liquid fill level of a this system is determined by continuously and concurrently monitoring current consumption of the electrical motor and generating an output corresponding thereto. The output is continuously compared with at least one threshold and a difference between the output and the threshold is established as the fill level of the cooling system. An alarm signal is emitted when the output drops below the threshold. When the output is compared with two separate such thresholds one of which is lower than the other, the signal is emitted when the output drops below the lower threshold. It is also within the scope of this invention to emit the alarm signal when the output drops to a level somewhat above the threshold, the difference being determined electronically by the control system serving as comparator.

A centrifugal pump has a housing with intake and discharge fittings at axially opposite ends. The electronic motor is supported on ribs within the pump housing and the motor casing is closed by the electronic control circuit for the motor which seals the motor against the pump liquid. The coolant thus flows around the electric motor and its control circuit.
