An animal restraint includes first and second upright plates. A plurality of bars, each having a first end mounted to the first plate and a second end mounted to the second plate, form an enclosure that is dimensioned to closely receive an animal. The plurality of bars further include at least one gate bar having a first end that is slidably mounted to the first plate and a second end that is slidably mounted to the second plate. The gate bar is slidable along a defined path between a closed position, in which the gate bar blocks an opening in the enclosure, and an open position, in which the gate bar is clear of the opening.

Apparatus and method for restraining a laboratory animal

A nebulizer is provided for use as an ion source for a mass spectrometer. The nebulizer facilitates alignment with a mass spectrometer target, reduces sample and nebulizer gas leakage, is easy to assemble and disassemble, and operates over a wide range of sample flow rates.

Nano-electrospray nebulizer

A bifurcated bracket carries two powder dispensing assemblies. Each assembly includes a powder reservoir and a rotatable screw received within a compliant silicone sleeve. The outer diameter of the screw is slightly larger than the inner diameter of the sleeve such that the screw blade maintains direct contact with the sleeve wall as the screw is rotated. The bracket is sequentially moved to align each assembly with containers in two arrays. Each array of containers is situated in a tray. The trays are manually positioned on independent scales which generate signals that are a function of the sensed weight of each array. To fill each container, the screw in the aligned assembly is rotated at a high rate for an initial period and then at a slower rate. The scales are operational only during the slower rate period. Assembly movement and screw rotation are computer controlled.

The reactor module includes a block adapted to receive an array of tube-like reactor vessels. The vessels are sized to optionally accept porus polyethelyene mircocannisters with radio frequency transmitter tags. Each vessel has a bottom port connected to an outlet tube. A valve block located below the reactor vessels simultaneously controls discharge through the outlet tubes. The valve block includes plates with aligned, relatively moveable sets of rib surfaces which act through Teflon encapsulated silicone O-ring cord sections to simultaneously close rows of outlet tubes. By first utilizing reactor vessels in one set of 48 positions, out of the possible reactor vessel positions in the reactor block, and then utilizing reactor vessels in the other set of 48 positions and shifting the relative position of the collection plate, a single reactor can be employed to discharge into all of the wells of a standard well microtiter collection plate. The apparatus can be used to perform the entire synthesis or only the final cleavage step of a radio frequency tagged synthesis.

Apparatus for synthesis of multiple organic compounds with pinch valve block

The simultaneous synthesis of diverse organic compounds is performed in stackable modules which are moveable among nesting sites located on work station platforms. The reactor module includes a heat transfer block adapted to receive an array of reactor vessels, preferrably in the form of solid phase extraction cartridges without sorbent, each with an outlet port. A plurality of valves are located below the vessels. The valves consist of rows of gang-controlled stopcocks which regulate the passage of fluids from the reactor vessel outlet ports into aligned channels, each formed by a pair of threated Leur tip adapters. The reactor module may be situated over a discharge module. The inlet openings in the discharge module accept the threaded ends of the Leur tip adapters. The discharge module may consist of a multi-well collector block or a drain block. An introduction module, which includes a pressure plate having an array of openings and a septum, may be received over the reactor module. The downwardly projecting rim defining each pressure plate opening cooperates with the septum to engage the mouth of the aligned reactor vessel to maintain a fluid tight seal.
